I think this is a great idea. I always love to be exposed to knew films and hearing you talk about them briefly first really helps pique my interest.

    Starting to watch now.

That was a pretty darn good movie. I liked it, and I like this idea.

When I first heard that there's movies you can download and watch for free online, I got loads of them that instant. Unfortunately it's hard to tell which ones are the better ones just by the title and description alone and I picked a few that weren't too interesting, but your opinion I can trust and just go ahead and enjoy these gems I missed, as was proven right here.

Cool idea. I was thinking about maybes doing something like this if we ever decided to make a video version of the podcast, because there's really nothing like this on TV anymore, movie hosts like Joe Bob/Moviedrome etc.

Anyway here's some PD suggestions...The Impossible Kid (midget fu), Trained to Kill USA and ofcourse....Laser Mission.

Wow! I just watched the whole movie in one sitting. I guess that's normal, but considering how little sleep I've had that was a miracle. That movie was... wow. Not as "scary" as I was expecting, but ten times "creepier". That's what the film was to me, in four words: creepy as all hell. I'd list my favorite scenes, but I'd probably get burned alive for posting spoilers. Really great movie I'd never seen before. Oh! The music! I loved that music so much! Anyways, thanks Brad!

I saw this movie a couple of years ago and I really liked it. I agree that you can't really put this film into the zombie genre, but it does have some of the elements. I'm a huge Lovecraft fan and this film actually had at times a Lovecraftian feel to it. It's a low budget film, but one that is done very well.
And Brad, this is the fucking best thing you've come up with. You fucking rule!

I too agree that this is a good idea. I like that, unlike your snob character, you're recommending these films. Giving the fans of the Snob something they might actually like to watch. And having just finished watching it myself, I must say I enjoyed it. There was a real sense of dread and suspense in the film; but I also couldn't help but think how it would get remade now-a-days with a bunch of drunken teens on a road trip, ending with the vulnerable, yet strong, female lead driving off at the end to fight another day.

Interesting. Kind of reminded me of Lovecraft's "The Shadow Over Innsmouth". Seaside town, population turning into monsters, an ancient evil, very H.P.L.

The crazy old bum was Elisha Cook who I remember playing a similar crazy guy in William Castle's "House On Haunted Hill". He really was good at playing spooked out nutballs.

That was enjoyable. It seemed to have more potential than overall quality, but I'm looking forward to more.

    Two thing though:

One, this has the creepiest "zombies" I've ever scene.

Two, that theater scene was pure genius.

Thanks, Mr. Snob, for showing this interesting film! It was cool seeing Sammy as a cowboy, too.
I really films like this; pacing itself, but doesn't slow to a crawl. It was interesting and it didn't need to rush to the finish line to keep you in your seat.
The Changeling is also another example of showing you slow AND steady wins the race.

Does anybody notice that the blond white guy in the beginning is a black guy in whiteface? How could they get away with it?

Also, I bet it would be great to check out Gone With the West here if it's perfect for this series.

Very cool movie. What is it about horror films from the 70 & 80's that just seem way more creepier then modern-day ones? Nowadays it's all gimmicks & gore and zero atmosphere. This one had barely any gore or gimmicky scares, yet it still creeped me the fuck out.
I'm a huge Lovecraft-fan so yeah, I loved every bit of this flick. It's pretty much an adaptation of Shadow over Insmouth with a deserted town, scary villagers & a dark menace returning from the sea.
Not sure which scenes I loved best since I don't want to spoil more, but the one in the theater was really awesome.
    Also, short-haired girl=HOT!
anyway, thank you Snob for introducing me to this movie.

This is a classic i found it in one of my living dead box sets, there was like 18 movies in it and this was one, next to fulci's House by the Cemetary it was my favorite of that box set.

there is another PD movie out there that is one of the best comedie/semi-explotion films of all time, it's called "Van Nuys Blvd" it's one of my all time favorite films, it would be a great addition to you PD collection. and if you haven't seen it i highly, highly recommend it.

I recommend watching this all in one sitting. I took a break part-way through, and was confused how the one character was still alive after being attacked. I thought I'd accidentally rewound the movie until the scene where she finds... well, I won't spoil it. The bit with the mirror.

The movie had me hooked right from the beginning and didn't disappoint throughout. It's quite unique and there's so much Lovecraft in it that it just might be the best movie "adaptation" of his work.
Plus I finally got to know where that sample in "Them" by Mr. Hyde & Necro is from

Decent movie there, though the end was disappointing...why'd they lock her up? I mean, if the Dark Stranger took his zombie army and started attacking places, people would be a little too worried about that than about psychoanalysing people who say he's coming. If he didn't, there's still a town in which everyone has gone mad and eaten each other, which would tend to corroborate her story.

Well, this was a VERY low budget film and the film-makers have admitted that they ran out of money and left several scenes un-shot. Especially from the ending. so they just had to cut the film and make the best of what they had.

Regardless, I like how it ends. I think it has a nice ambiguity to it.

I'm wondering if the critters in the movie are supposed to be wendigo and not zombies… The dark stranger's tale of cannibalism, the old drunk who told the girl that the only way to kill her father was to burn him… yeah, that all sounds like the wendigo myth.

Finally got round to watching this and... wow that was creepy. I'd say this wasn't really a zombie film, but very much a lovecraftian story which builds up tension without ever breaking it with jump scares. It also didn't show very much in the death scenes, and it doesn't really need to; the most horrifying things we can imagine are happening off-camera. If you do more of these public domain shows, or if anyone can recommend other sites with public domain shows, I'd watch them regularly.
