Stoned Gremlin Productions Presents: FREAK OUT
In 1977, teenager Wayne (Nick Foster) gathers his two friends, female runaway Rhonda (Sarah Ogg) and disco club hopper Tim (David Gobble), for a drug party located in the suburban home of quiet recluse Dean (Brad Jones). But unknown to Tim and Rhonda are the horrible secrets which lie in Dean's basement storage room. Dean is the uncaptured child murderer who uses his basement as a torture dungeon with the help of Wayne and fellow teenager David (Buford Stowers). When the drugs and alcohol mix get higher throughout the night, not even so called friends are safe from the sadistic bloodlust of Dean. Inspired by a true story.

Eager to see this but is there a way you could upload it somewhere totally uncensored(as in with the nudity left in)?
Not that I'm this sleazehound(well actually I am) but if you have nudity in it then you should be able to show it the way it was supposed to be.
Hope you get to upload that version somewhere.
In any case you rock. Good to see someone with a love of exploitation voice his opinion on the web.

I understand when you were on youtube you couldn't display nudity but why not here?
I'm gonna check this movie out in due course.

Real good shit for you're first film. Good buildup towards the climax.

Hey man just got through watching the whole thing its 1:33 am in the uk. It was very gripping and nicely built up, even though its your first film I had one niggle with the film. No matter what rhonda was trying to potray in her voice it sounded monotoney. The part were rhonda was in the bedroom scared and confused, I didnt actually realise that till wayne told dean that later on. Speaking of wayne that was a great character, your part was great also.
Just my two cents (or pennies in our case) I dont really know much about films anyway. Keep up the good work!

The reason the nudity is covered up is because I have no contact with the actress so I don't really have her permission for showing her nude on the site.

Ah, makes sense.
How does that work on big budget movies, I guess they get a signed release or something?
Love the site.

Wayne reminds me of the kid in American History X.
Brad completely stole the show. He was the most interesting character in the film.
All I can say is that it was a hell of alot better than Crazy Fat Ethel 2.
Reply to this
I liked it.
My one complaint would be how long it is. While it held my attention for the full 140 minutes I thought it would be a lot better if you shaved off a half hour. I thought Brad gave a great performance, Dean really was the best part of the movie. I really want to see Cheap now. When are you putting that one up?

"Rough around the edges" it may be, but I still found this very impressive. The torture scene was pretty intense I found - more so than say "Scrapbook" or "Murder Set Pieces" or stuff like that.
I also loved the use of the songs, which was reminiscent of Tarantino or Scorsese. I'll never listen to "S.O.S" in the same way again!

"Couple hours of Editing" I forgot that was in there. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. I gotta stop watching these things while I'm at work!

Brad, thanks for releasing the film. Is this a preview that your later masterpieces are going to be released soon? Perhaps...Game Boys? Midnight Heat? Remember, your title should read "un film de brad jones"

A facinating first film. While some of the writing, acting, and camera work is a bit clunky from time to time (not that can really be avoided given the limitations), the strange nature of the situation is facinating, as is the character of Dean. It would be interesting to see you be able to remake it with a decent budget to be able to shoot on professional level DV cameras or 16mm, and with professional actors (save yourself, which was a fancastic performance btw).
Care any if I were to review the film on my site? I still have to finish my TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE: THE MOVIE review, so it might be a while, but would do my best to give a fair and accurate review of the film.

Great work! At first, I was expecting the camera to get in the way of the movie, but the camera quality and what appears to be entirely handheld shooting style complements the film wonderfully.
The one thing that really stood out in this film were the torture scenes, especially the one in the third act. Dean became incredibly intense towards the end, and I was really drawn in to his character.
My only complaint is that the final scene -the afterword, if you will- felt out of place to me.
That being said, I really enjoyed the film, and I think that if I were to make my first film half as good as this, I'd be pleased. I think you did an excellent job here.

Thanks! Glad you liked it! You're not far off about that final scene. I plan on doing an audio commentary, I'll explain it in that.

Found you during your time at Spoony's, and have since really become a fan of the snob and was curious to see what you do outside that setting.
This surprised me in that I was able to see how you write as well as act, and I was impressed with both. Overall this movie has a couple diamonds in it's rough, and the key is to look past the sound and camera limitations and see if there's any raw talent or potential.
Everybody loves conflicted characters, but I love ones who are truly, purly evil simply because that's how they're made. I didn't sense much conflict with Dean, he was very matter-of-fact about horrible tortures and murders, and that's what scares/impresses me. Guys who have no qualms about doing evil are much more interesting and scary to me.
When it comes to your performance as Dean, I think the snob said it best about Simon in Satan's Children. To paraphrase: "This guy could play a weenie choppin psychopath in a much better movie than this." You captured perfectly the ups and downs and calms and rages of someone who's truly fucked up and demented, but also high-functioning, and I was impressed with the performance throughout. It's the most challenging, important, and demanding role in the movie, and you executed it very well. I bought into you as this character, and that made it worth watching all the way through.
Wayne's character was next strongest, and I liked his unsure and vulnerable elements, those were believable also. I wondered if it was the character being unsure or the actor for some of the movie, but that last scene with you two before the finale really showed me that it was actual acting, and that made me feel good.
The other secondary characters were up and down depending on who it was, but the girl was Sofia Coppola in Godfather 3. Emotionless, lifeless, and not as good as most of the actors I saw in "Annie Jr." at the local community playhouse this summer. I don't mean to be rude, but I can only assume she was someone's girlfriend at the time or something.
The writing and premise I thought have potential, and this is more disturbing than a lot of the supposed horror and thrillers of recent years. I think this could be reshot with a bigger budget, more professional cast (save you, nick, and a few others), and have about 30 min of people sitting on couches trimmed to make a movie that would beat a lot of what is out there right now.
I look forward to the other movies. After seeing this, watching the ones with a stronger supporting cast and better camera and sound work I think will be enjoyable. Bring on Cheap and Gameboys especially.
To close, I'm a radio DJ and event MC so I know what it's like to perform in front of people and be judged by people who don't have to pay and who have other choices. Your consistency with the snob is phenominal, I've had major laughs, and thanks for the hours of enjoyment you've given us all. Keep em coming!

fucking great and amazing movie. I wish you released this on dvd.
I really liked the way the movie was black and white except for the basement scenes. I really liked the the darkest, most brutal scenes were the most vibrantly colored it made for an excellent contrast and was very ingenious. this was a very cleverly designed film. It almost felt as though it was actually made in the 70's, and it had the feel of a sleazy grindhouse, explotation film. very, very good.

For me I felt that it was okay, it was decent especially considering it was your groups first attempt, I didn't really get a tense vibe when I was watching it, to me I felt a lot of the parts were more awkward if anything, and I think the reason why is just the spotty acting, particularly with Rhonda and Wayne. Rhonda was just bad all around, to me I thought that she was monotone and really the nudity was unnecessary so maybe you could have sprung for someone better but you have your reasons, if it was that important I don't know, but Wayne I thought some of his faults kind of had to do with the writing above anything, with the dialogue he had especially for like the first half it would be hard for anyone to give a good performance especially for there first movie, even around the end his acting was kind of hard to believe, which kind of hurt the climax in a way. As far as the other characters go I would say that 3 of you were actually very good, but I'll go into detail about that later, everyone else I thought were just whatever, couldn't say they were bad cause they weren't in it long enough but the victims were solid.
As far as the camera and lighting goes, it was kind of weak but it was never a big enough problem that it distracted me from the story. Effects wise, It was alright, whenever you guys would fight it made me laugh like when Wayne got punched but whatever, it wasn't to bad.
Now the story I thought had some faults, more so you had a lot of just unnecessary scenes or some just dragged on a little to much, towards the end I just didn't understand at all Deans intentions of letting him go, unless you were going for him wanting to die or that he just snapped, I don't know if I just missed something if you could shed some light I'd be willing to listen.
Fuck I am actually being very critical sorry, but I guess the reason why was because of all the parts I did like and just kind of the potential some of you have, I thought both the actors who played Tim and David did very well, no complaints with them at all.
Finally I also don't really want to say it but really you were actually the best actor and honestly I found you kind of a savior for the whole movie, and you easily stole the show, just overall the character of Dean was great, and I applaud you on that.
As for the whole movie overall it was a decent first attempt and you should be proud of what you did, just know that you actually have skill in acting and in writing, also the writing for all I said it had some good moments.
Anyway this might be more then a little long of I guess a review but I did like parts of it, but really not bad for your first movie.
If there's anything you disagree with or want to comment about I'd like to know

Just finished watching...and i found it really good Brad! Only the length on some shots where pretty long sometimes and i would suggest some cutouts from here and then (i think the ending scene would worked better with a cut to the credit roll after the street without the police station scene with the two cops). And the nudity would be pretty nice and would not be amiss, but i´m am an european guy

I am just starting out in community management/marketing media and trying to learn how to do it well - resources like this article are incredibly helpful. As our company is based in the US, it?s all a bit new to us. The example above is something that I worry about as well, how to show your own genuine enthusiasm and share the fact that your product is useful in that case.

he parts are cobbled together from different sources. While most of the parts are perfectly fine, others are gross overkill for typical scenarios. Sadly, we’ve come to regard this as normal and become resigned to the productivity consequences

my god, that did not seem like a first film, that was way too well developed to be a first time. but must be true haha, would have loved to see this in theater. i have few complaints that could be helped about this. obviously the quality could be upped a bit, but what can ya do. that and the sometimes frequent panning of the camera creates a bit of dizziness, especially when it cuts. but on that budget, again, what can you do. i will say i loved the red lighting in the basement while everything else was black and white, very nice touch.
all the actors were pretty much spot on, especially you tim and david. you know the actor is good if you despise their character, ie tim was a scumbag and played it well. i cant really say bad things about our protagonists, just their voices were a bit stumbleish or monotone, but they were definitely in character. lets face it, i usually dont like good guys, just like everyone else.
brad, youre a damn artist and dont let anyone else tell you otherwise. i kinda hope you get to take a break from snobbing to make more of these horror films, you really looked like you had a ball in this. then again, i would never want you to hang up the snob suit haha.

Just got done watching it and it was okay for the most part. The acting is alright, Sarah who plays Rhonda wasn't good in the movie in my opinion. Nick was alright in his performance. Brad you were great as usual. In fact, the last twenty minutes is actually that best piece of acting I've seen you done. Burford and David were good as usual.
The running time despite being 2 and the half hours actually felt right for the story it was telling.
However, the major thing that bother me was the black boxing the nudity scene. No way do I blame Brad for this but I blame Blip and I'll add youtube as well. I mean its alright to show graphic violence to children but god forbid if they show a naked lady on a video. In my opinion this is unfair and unjust and needs to dealt with. If youtube and blip are alright with children watching graphic brutal violence and hearing a lot of swearing then nudity should be fine. There is no difference between one of the other. Think about it.
But overall Brad, good job for your feature debut.

While I know it's been said a million times, I'll say it once more. Despite it's flaws I loved this movie. I know "Rhonda" gets flack for her mostly wooden performance she isn't the only one guilty of such flat deliveries. With Brad as an exception, and suprising Rhonda's dad and "Sargent" who only had one line, most of the actors had moments of imitating wood. But that's not so bad, Rhonda stands out because she just never delivers another side.
But in fact, my biggest complaint with Rhonda is how she figures out what's going on. She found a black backpack in Dean's car... and Frank had a black backpack. That seemed like a big leap of thought to me. And taking her to the boat shed seemed unneccesary, I know the scene sets up Dean's breakdown of thought later on but it feels oddly filler.
I couldn't help my curiousity and looked into the incident the movie is inspired by and I know it's easier to sat "Oh I'd have done it that way" when looking at someone else's finished work after all their effort but if I might make a suggestion, why didn't David just take the bodies himself? I know Dean had the key, but they had a key to his house, so loaning David the key for a quick dump off wouldn't seem out of place.
There were bits of that, where I just felt a scene didn't make sense in the story you were trying to tell and how you were telling. That said that's just minor nitpicking. Like the scene with Rhonda getting dropped off for him to come back and get her. It could have been cut, and logically why didn't he just take Tim along to drop her off and head to Dean's from her house? Ok, so those minor "why did you do it this way" complaints aside, I loved the atmosphere set up and while I agree this could be cleaned up around the edges to make the story flow more naturally in places, that's just one man's opinion.
