"Claws For Alarm" Halloween Toons!

One of my favorite cartoons of all time, I always like breaking this one out around Halloween time.  "Claws for Alarm" (1954, directed by Chuck Jones) was the 2nd in a Trilogy of Classic Warner Brothers Cartoons starring Porky Pig and Sylvester the Cat.  The first in the series being "Scaredy Cat," and the third being "Jumpin' Jupiter."  Each of these revolved around Porky and Sylvester being put into a dark and haunted location, with Sylvester (in an non speaking role) being the only one who is aware of the dangers the two of them have stumbled upon.

"Claws for Alarm" is the best of these three cartoons, and taking away from the fact that the cartoon itself is sidesplittingly hilarious, I always loved the sense of dread in this cartoon.  The mice villains in the cartoon are rarely ever seen, adding a degree of menace, and the glimpses we get of them are mainly from their creepy eyes peaking out from various dark locations.  Seeing how the setting is a completely deserted and empty town, it seems like the history of this town could make for a legitimately creepy horror film.  The ending too is a nice little nod to horror films with the non ending ending, with our two heroes still remaining in danger.

This cartoon is just an all around classic, that's all there is to it.  A Looney Tunes Masterpiece, and should be required viewing for every Halloween.
