Big fan of Jean-Claude Van Damme, almost all my favorite action movies are of his, like Bloodsport, Cyborg, Timecop and Universal Soldier ( childhood favorite) and he has some really unappreciated movies like Legionnaire ( that movie really showed his acting) and JCVD is really great especially his monologue at the end and how he plays himself as a unappreciated action actor.

Got to admit I haven't been following his later movies because his paring with Dennis Rodman and Rob Schneider have left a bad taste and even the 1999 Universal Soldier was a dissapointment but I think I'll give this one a try just to see Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude at it again.

Knock Off is probably the stupidest Van Damme flick I've seen... and I fucking love it. A wonderfully absurd movie with scenes existing only to make fun of the star, coke fuelled directing, kick-ass action sequences (only wish they didn't cut some of the fights) and a self-conscious nature (the movie being a "knock off" of better Asian action flick), it's awesome.

Thank you! That's what I've been saying for years now - Jean Claude Van Damme has gotten better since he started doing direct-to-video movies.

Also... have you lost some weight? Or is that suit jacket a little big or not just fitting you well...? You look tiny today. I'm worried for you. Are you okay?

I went back to the Blockbuster that's closing down and passed up buying a copy of JCVD...and now I'm really regretting it. Hopefully it'll still be there next time I go.

Also, I saw a war movie called Tunnel Rats at Blockbuster as well. It looked pretty good until I saw it was directed by...UWE BOLL! As far as I know, it's not based on a video game and it actually looked sorta decent. I looked it up on IMDB and it only got like 4.5 stars but that's like 5 stars more than his other movies rate. Just a suggestion if you ever get in the mood to subject yourself to Uwe Boll again. I doubt I'll ever watch it myself.

Hey Brad, have you heard of House of the Dead: The Funny Version? When I saw the cover for that, I laughed my butt off! I swear, it exists!

No offense but I only prefer Dolph Lundgren in Rocky IV because to me that's his only well known performance! Not a big Van Damme watcher, not seen any of his films, don't know if I ever will!

So you got Netflix Instant, I take it.

I thought Postal was alright. I watched it with a friend who enjoys the Video games. He said as far as being based on the game, it was done pretty well.

    I haven't bothered with Retrograde.

I would recommend you check out Missionary Man which is pretty much a remake of Pale Rider with Clint Eastwood.

Also Command Performance was alright, Die Hard at a rock concert & Direct Contact was a fun b-flick. Both are on Netflix Instant.

I'd take a crappy Dolph flick over Seagals stuff any day of the week.

wow i didn't even know they made a third universal soldier, wow sounds like the script either wasn't well written or got revised to many times.

oh on Postel, whats ignored about this movie is its based almost entirely on Postal 2, ok its tasteless but so's any of the Postel games, it actually is VERY VERY close to the original game and the expansion packs i believe, this is something i learned from friends who played the games right before watching the movie, yes some things where added.
also the reason Vince Troyer replaces Gery Coleman is because he was busy he also stated in an article that he wanted to do the movie. and you also have to admit with the script he was given Zack Ward did an amazing job.
also another reason this movie is so close to the game unlike o5ther boll movies is because the game staff actually helped him make it, the games tacky and horrendous on its own you almost cant blame boll for it, almost

If any of you hope to find a genuinely good Uwe Boll movie, then check out 'Heart of America', known as 'Home Room' in Australia.
'Heart of America' is one of few non-game inspired films, and was inspired by Columbine and other high-school shooting incidents.
This film is intense, poignant and generally well-acted, with competent camerawork and a couple of absorbing sub-plots.
I provided a positive review of 'Heart of America' on my YouTube channel. If you watch this film, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Blurgh. Just watched Universal Soldier Regeneration via "torrent"ial rain.

What a joyless pile of noring shit.

Peter Hyams son's direction is wannabe Paul Greengrass era Bourne Identity. Grainy, Eastern European set borefest.

As for the "good Dolph Death" (look away now for plot spolier).

A scaffold pole implaed through the head with a shotgun blast aimed down the tube to finish him off.

Hardly the woodchipper scene from the original Universal Soldier.

Hang on? How did Dolph's charcter return then? ah who cares it was shit anyways- worse than UiSol- The Return

I've not seen JCVD or US:R, but I've seen several other recent VanDamme / Lundgren flicks. VanDamme has had the better luck if you ask me, but I've still not seen Command Performance, which is supposed to be... not quite as shitty, at least...

Anyway, Retrograde is bad bad... one of those bad movies that even a fan of bad movies can't really watch. It's just fucking boring as hell the whole time. There are a few interestng bits, but even the fucking action sequences are a chore to sit through. Hated that movie.

With all this talk of JCVD and Lundgren and straight to DVD shit... usually most people think of Steven Segal as 'the other STV action guy', but there's another one that I NEVER hear about anymore, beyond the fact that I try to watch all of his movies...

    Cuba Gooding Jr.

What the fuck happened to him? He was getting oscar nominations and Golden Globe nominations left and right. What fucking movie did he make that drove him straight into the bargain bin? Was "Boat Trip" that fucking bad that the guy who starred in it was forced out of the clubhouse or something? I mean, jesus. The guy isn't that bad an actor. It's really kinda sad to watch him really try so hard in some of these flicks. Way of War is SO FUCKING AWFUL! It's god damn amazing, all the really decent actors they managed to get into that thing. Cuba, J.K.Simmons, Clarence Williams... And it's not even watchable. It's like watching a book on tape or something. All anyone does is talk. YOu start to fall asleep and then you hear a gunshot. You wake up and someone's dead, you don't know why and then people start talking again. So you sleep some more. It's fucking ridiculous.

    Bah.

Anyway, if you have the spirit to keep watching DVD crap, I'd love to see you tackle some... There's a surprising surge of really slick, well-produced stuff out there now. The cost of making a film has finally started to reach a point where you can pull off quite a nice action/sci-fi flick with very little money providing you have at least a few guys with some decent effects skill.

If you wanna watch something that's REALLY REALLY bad...

    "Bounty"
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0985049/
There are so many obvious fuck-ups in this movie, it's ridiculous. All of the sets look like they took someone's tool shed and just threw a couple chairs and props into them. I swear to god, every interior is the same tiny room. It's supposed to be the old west, but there are modern buildings in the backgrounds, power lines and just all kinds of shit. There are a few interesting practical effects, but aside from some neat gunshot wounds, the movie is just... terrible on a level I haven't seen in at least a fucking decade. It's as bad as a lot of the so-called 'shot-on-shitteo' you've talked about. This was shot digitally, but It doesn't look like they used much more than a handy-cam or something similar. It's shitty, but it's nice to see people make movies just for the joy of it.

I didn't like Postal either. I dont hate it, but its one of those movies I easily forget.

As for Jean Claude's and Dolph Lungren's characters not seeming to know eachother in US3, when you said that, it reminded me how they treated John Connor and T-800 in "Terminator Salvation". Lame......

I still need to see Universal Soldier 3.
