"Universal Soldier" (1971) Review
In my first scripted video review as myself, I take a look at the 1971 George Lazenby hippie-centric "action" film "Universal Soldier." Will there be a shootout involving hacky-sack? Watch and find out, but I will say that it does include amazing frisbee throwing action!

Lazenby looked like a young Lemmy Kilmeister in this film. All thats missing are two huge warts on his cheek.
Its to bad that Lazenby didn't continue as Bond. We might have been spared "Moonraker" and slide-whistle car jumps.

i loved on her majesty secret service, I even went to the top of the actual mountain where the film took place, it was pretty awesome, you can get all kinds of stuff from the film there!

oh man I was so looking forward to this and you fucked it up. What you used as vieomaterial is dv that means it isn't formatted correctly yet, you have to do that otherwise the image will be squished like it is now and looks horribly .
Please, please adjust that!

WOW WTF was up with this movie. Damn I never heard of George Lazenby but it looked like he would've been a great James Bond to carry on the mantle of Sean Connery but because of the smoke in those times he didn't make a good decisions. I mean damn I think the whole crew was high in that movie.

When you were watching "Zardoz" high, did it suddenly become really cohesive and brilliant and logical? Or, at the very least, did you never question how the movie got made?

Huh, I had no idea George Lazenby did anything after Bond, and I agree he was one of the better ones. ( As a Scot and living in Edinburgh, Sean Connery is my number one. )Well I for one am looking forward to some more just Brad talking about movies.

Feeling the Lazenby Love.
OHMSS is a great movie. That opening fight on the beach is startlingly beautiful and brilliantly edited.
In the outstanding documentary NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD Lazenby says he was basically blacklisted from Hollywood after the Bond film because he refused to sign the Broccoli's intensely controlling contracts for more films.

Great review and very well done.
However, if you are going to start doing scripted reviews as "yourself" your going to want to change things up a bit for the setting and style. A wardrobe change may be an idea or the format of the videos or the location that you shoot from. It just seemed like another 'Snob" video to me.

I wrote alot and then the site errored on me, so i'll try again.
I was debating writing this as alot of the "yes men" viewers here may get mad at me critiquing this but I am giving honest feedback here, not being mean. Hope this is ok.
First off, I like the new camera but thought you should know it appears squished in full screen (I have a HD widesreen TV I use as a monitor).
I noticed someone mention this and want to be frank here. This felt like a snob review. I dont know if i have the answers to fix this but maybe a change in setting would help get you in the mind set for this being different. My thinking on it is that the Snob is about the parody, so these should be more about the facts and what the point is your trying to make with the video. Try to refrain from bringing your emotions into it and do it straight up, fact based like a normal movie reviewer would. When you get overly zealous or something your inflections become more snob like. Your mannerisms are also something you may want to check out as you'd notice your snob mannerism are prevalent in this video which I dont notice in your ad-libbed "just talking to the camera" videos, so this may be due to your mind set when filming. I dont know, just my thoughts.
Anyway, these are my thoughts and I hope they are not mistaken as mean spirited as that is not my intention. I hope the feed back is ok. I liked the video, but it felt very snob like. Needs something to distinguish a difference for them to be considered two seperate entities.

I am almost entirely in agreement with you when it comes to On Her Majesty's Secret Service and George Lazenby. OHMSS is my all time favorite Bond, while I rank Lazenby over both Moore and Brosnan (though lower than Connery, Craig and,my all time favorite Bond, Dalton).
Oh, and let's not foget: Lazenby is also Superman's father, Jor El!

Nice to see some love for Lazenby and OHMSS, my favorite Bond actor, movie and villain (Savallas). Although Lazenby only beats Connery as my favorite with 50.5% over 49.5%.
Also, 'Who Saw Her Die?' is a fucking great movie, with an excellent performance by Lazenby.

oh god. i thought lazenby sucked in that movie. im not saying hes a bad actor, just that when i think bond i think of that 2 dimensional semi sexist butt kicker. i just cant stomach seeing an emotional and/or "human" bond. i want him to be that unbelievable movie star that connery,moore, and brosnan provided... i also didnt think his reaction to his wife dying was believable the second time i saw it, but it was shocking the first

I'm sure someone else has mentioned this, but the song used in "Monty Python's Flying Circus" is "The Liberty Bell March". George Lazenby is an underappreciated actor in my opinion too. He's certainly better than Timothy Dalton.

did you ever see the screen tests on the dvds of james brolin when he was up for octopussy he might have had the depth that lazenby had. Im a fan of dalton too but i would have liked to have saw sam neill in the living daylights his test is in the doc on the living daylights dvd bond fans should seek these tests out

I remember this movie. I thought it was such a good movie, so much action, such screenplay. Later on when I was invaded by Hollywood movies, I realized that all the action movies I've seen in the past will seem bad from now on. Too many special effects have killed the old movies.
