Wow man, now I got to see this movie. A nostalgia trip movie to the 80s that is not from the 80s and goes back to the 80s is like the best thing that ever happen since The Back To The Future Trilogy. Great review and Happy Birthday to Jerrid.

I agree 100% with you Brad. Hot Tube Time Machine was the best comedy I've seen in a long time. It reminded me of one of my favorite comedies from the 80's (which also happens to star John Cusack); Better Off Dead. I think my favorite part was that running gag with Crispin Glover that you mentioned in the review. I especially loved that part with him in the elevator lol. Any way everyone should definitely check it out.

I saw this movie on Sat. and fucking LOVED it! I was born in '82 and have to say, Collette Wolfes' character reminded me of my cousin (who was a teenager in '86)...

I was the only person in the theater that laughed at the, ''Give him a body bag, Blaine!'' during the fight scene..
    I recommend this movie ten-fold.

I have to make time to see this.

I have been a Cusack fan since Savage Steve Holland's 1980's greats "Better Off Dead" and "One Crazy Summer".

And how could you go wrong with Crispin Glover? You just can't.

Judging from what you said you might like Bubble Fiction: Boom Or Bust.
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0906564/

It's about this Japanese girl who travels back in time to early early 90's Japan via a washing machine time machine(secret goverment project).
It's a little more serious in it's message maybe, as it deals with this political subplot, but other than that it's nicely colorful and silly and reminded me of Back To The Future a lot.

Anyway about this movie I'l give it a shot. Grew up during the 80's so it'll be nice and nostalgic

Considering you're such an '80s buff, I wonder if you actually like films such as "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" or Weird Al's "UHF". Most people seem to hate those kind of films but to me they're some of the rare comedies that are actually funny.

Just so you know your not alone, I find those movies to be great as well.

UHF is one of my favorite slapstick, goofy comedies, and not just cus I knew Weird Al growing up (my dad was friends with everyone at Dr. Demento back in the day). Micheal Richards is weirdly hilarious in that film, but I liked most Ernest movies too so...

Anyway, I like them too. Although I pride myself on finding most comedy funny... well I did until the pop culture of the new millenium started. I dont find that stuff funny so maybe I'm losing touch. =P

My favorite comedy of the '90s is "The Big Lebowski" and my favorite 21st century comedy is "Thank you for Smoking" but those are very rare gems.

The problem with humor is that is gets really old real fast and for humor to actually be funny it must be orriginal one way or the other... and orriginality is rare these days.

Brad, everyone, please -- stop fetishizing the 80s! I lived my teenage years then...it was a decade, nothing more. Much of it I look fondly at, much of it sucked horribly -- when it was happening and in retrospect. Don't perpetuate idiot rerun culture...ultimately, we're gonna hit the point where something becomes avant garde, mainstream, passe and retro all before noon on the same day!

I was kinda torn on seeing this movie. When the red-band trailer first came out, it looked awesome. Then the TV ads came out and made it look cheesy as hell. Not to mention "Kick Some Past" is the most horrible tagline I've ever heard. I still wanna see it but I think I can probably wait until video unless anyone else I know actually wants to see it.

Aren't you a bit young to be "stuck in the 80s"?

I was born 1978 and all i can remember about the 80 are a few movies (i don't trust my own taste as a child enough to call them "good movies"), different music, school, playing with my "Masters Of The Universe" action figures and games on my uncle's Commodore64 and the fact that there was less TV.
    That is pretty much all.

As much as the 90s sucked, i can't deny the fact that they were the true decade of my youth.

And i have noticed that i personally don't know anybody who was old enough to truly experience the 80s who is very nostalgic about them. All the people i know who were teenagers in the 80s have a very "meh" attitude about them, much like i feel about "my 90s".

Nice review and good idea with the cat's theme music. Thanks.

Very interesting. Brad- Thanks for sharing. It's very helpful to have someone like you making recommendations about movies. It cost way too damn much anymore to see the movies in the theater any more. But, I'll have to admit there is no thrill like seeing a movie on opening night or a sneak preview where everyone is super-dooper excited to see the flick (providing of course the movie turns out to be actually any good). I just saw a trailer for a movie I would be very interested in you commenting about when it comes out. It's called "The Good, The Bad and The Weird". It's some Korean Western inspired by the old spagettie Westerns of Sergio Leon - or at least that's what the movie's ads claim. Would love to see you talk about Sword and Sorcerer and the old Buck Rogers TV show if you run out of othre ideas. Luv Ya. -Chao!

THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE WEIRD is a great film. In particular, the opening train action setpiece is phenomenal. Got the Korean DVD last year and certainly haven't regretted it.

Ahhh... it's the haunting Grendel theme. It makes for great cat sauntering music.

Hey Brad, if you are a really big fan of Crispin Glover then you might really like a film called "Simon Says". It's a pretty fun 80's-style slasher flick and it's Crispin at his most craziest and weirdest!

At first, this movie looked so stupid that I was going to pass on it.

Thank God I didn't. This may easily be one of 2010's best comedies, if not one of 2010's best movies altogether.

I think it's that good, but I can't say I'll find something even better (but that's just me).

    Good review, CS.

Comedies are hard to review because comedy is the most subjective genre of film. Not everyone has the same kind of humor. Would you say it's more like John Hughes or Judd Apatow? The former does the comedy with heart aspect much better than the latter imo.

You still can't beat Better Off Dead (one of my favs) or even High Fidelity for some John Cusack comedy though.

I find it interesting how you created this character of yourself, in the very beginning you was a shadow of nintendo nerd or nostalgia critic, but times goes on, and then you became an solid characters. And now, instead of copying others others you inspire newcomers, your shadows. What would be this line that separates the characters from the shadows? I don't know, perhaps it was in the time, you made the decision of giving up other plans of your life to dedicate all your energy on this character, when you over trusted his potential. How much time do we dedicate to something on our life, this is a decisive spot, when it comes to evaluate the importance of our plans. Anyway this is a subject that intrigues me, when did you crossed the line.

Thanks for the review, Brad, I really wanted to know if this movie's good or not, because, honestly, the premise IS pretty funny. It has a sort of Bill & Ted vibe to it in terms of a bunch of average joes getting to travel through time. And the cast is damn good, too.
