I want to ask your opinion on something while I'm at it, since you said you're a bit of a feminist, I'd like to hear you take on this.
I'm something of a Comic Book Fan and been reading them since I was ten. Back in 2003, a rather controversal series was releashed called "Identity Crisis" by writer Brian Meltzer and artist Rags Morale. The story goes like this: a woman named Sue Dibny, whose the wife of 2nd string Super Hero and former Justice League member Ralph Dibny aka Elongated Man, is murdered. Her murder sends the Hero community into shock and hurts everyone. After the funeral, the various heroes begin searching for the unknown killer but a group of heroes secretly meet with Ralph and go after a washed-up super criminal called Doctor Light, whom they are sure killed Sue. It's explained that many years earlier, Dr.Light had breached the Leauges satellite base to launch a solo sneak attack but finds only Sue alone. He attacks her; Sue resists, sending Light into a rage and he rapes her, but not before Sue hit a panic button. The other heroes arrive and stop light but not before he victimizes Sue.
It's this plot point in this story that bitterly divides fans. The act is clear, but isn't depicted in a "graphic" or "exploitive" way. Definately not in a "I Spit On Your Grave" or "Blood Sucking Freaks" way, but in a "Law & Order: SVU" is the best way to put it.
I'm just looking for feedback from some non-comic book readers. If you read this story without knowing what happens would it offend you?

For an honest retort however; you can justify making a terrible movie because the goal was to be mindlessly gory and offensive. Does that make it any less awful and less deserving of critique? No.
Your comment is so very ironic, you decry a critic for criticizing a work not because he is wrong but because 'there was no reason to say anything'. You then spit on your own advise by publishing the very comment containing that phrase, funny ain't it? You last few sentences also clue me into the fact you know nothing about our friend here, himself a fan of exploitation movies and the like, which is why he bashes them, in good fun.

Yeah, Brad, one of my favorite parts was always hearing "Believe or not" in the beginning, and the cover just doesn't do it for me. Bring back the original theme.
Reply to this
I want to applaud you for trying new things, but I hate the new intro song. It was terrible, please change it back or if your sick of Greatest American Hero, then change it completely.

Who cares about the theme song, it's just a theme song; like the cover of a book. Here we have torture, sexploitation gone rampant, psuedo-sex acts you'll wish to god you never heard of, brought to you by Ming the merciless had he been a stage performer, and his deraged, Dolemitewannabe midget buddy sidekick, the Darwin Award Waiting To Happen who let her kid watch this, the subsequent Wap Attack, cannibal wackjobs who don't seem to be anything more than filler, and the "sandwhich", which for me, brought up memories of the acidhead who, on Thanksgiving of '96, blared out to me that he bet my dick tasted like bacon. Said acidhead is no longer with us becase he decided in '01 to walk across the desert to Sacramento to go see his brother. I Brad can be forgiven for trying a different theme song.

Hey Brad, there's some visible nipples around 2:30. I don't mean to complain, since it's just something you didn't notice during editing.

"Roth participated in a DVD audio commentary for Blood Sucking Freaks in 1996, having no formal credits, as a 'Blood and Guts Expert.'" - Wikipedia
Eli's done a few similar things as well, including an interview with Takashi Miike on the GOZU special edition DVD.
i can't believe all the bitching about a 20 second clip of a song that's only ever going to be used once. you guys have tolerated longer clips of a guy shoveling ice cream for fuck's sake.

This was another great episode. I personally like hearing the Sad Panda's music and thought it was cool hearing him open up an episode. I especially liked the parts where the Snob identified with the critic in the film.
And to the guy who said that the Sad Panda is associated with videos of lesser quality and therefore should not be associated with the Cinema Snob? It is one thing to have an opinion but it is another to be an elitist. Just because the Sad Panda preforms music for shows you do not like does not mean he cannot preform music for shows you do like.

The mother who said her kid was upset by this movie; did she actually take her kid to see this in a theater? And if she did, didn't she notice the rating and the advertisement explicitly saying this was NOT a kids movie? Really, this is the type of dumbass who would take their kid to see 'Fritz The Cat' thinking "Its a cartoon. Disney makes cartoons. So it must be for kids." despite having a huge X-rating posted on it.

I think it has something to do with blip.tv's draconian puritan policies.
Reply to this
I don't think it's draconian. I'm surprised they let Brad get away with so much gore in his videos. :p
Reply to this
But infact it is, the video site seems to base off it's rules from warped puritan values which is "violence/gore=good nudity/sex=bad" not to mention that the draconian part comes in where they even equate simple nudity as pornography as well.

I remember this movie, I was a teenager at the time and I was one of those rather stupid teenagers that bit into controversy. Being a woman and a bit of a feminist, the only part that offended me was the objectification. The gore didn't phase me despite it being the most graphic movie I saw at the time, I thought for the most part it was just a stupid premise. The best part of going to see the film though WAS seeing some of the reactions on other viewers faces.
Also, Troma was around in 1976? I didn't really notice them until the 80s when The Toxic Avenger struck. Anyone know when they got started?
Reply to this
1974, Chie.
Thanks for taking the time, Chie.

Read Llyod Kaufman's book, 'All I Need To Know About Filmmaking I Learned From The Toxic Avenger.' The entire history of Troma is explained.
Reply to this
Saw this a couple of years ago. Have to admit after all the hype around it I had expected it to be more shocking. In the end it was just unintentionally funny. That's okay too but the movie doesn't live up to it's reputation.
Then again the fact that I had already seen Flower Of Flesh And Blood by that point probably ruined the shockvalue of this.

How do these old torture exploitation films compare to more modern, large budget ones, such as Hostel? And are there any films of this sort that blatantly play it for laughs?
This would've been one of those reviews that would've been nice to have 2 versions of, one of which could be posted on one of those porn versions of youtube so it wouldn't need censoring.

No, it's not shocking, it's just retarded, and too mysoginistic for me. Shocking I can deal with, shocking is fun, this is Brazillian Star Warsville for mysoginists: feme hater filler, and lame at that.
I'm a Troma fan, but not everything troma puts out appeals to me. Even thoug, if you're great all the time, you're boring, but BF just needs to go.

*shrugs* I don't hate women yet I thought it was entertaining. It's bad taste maybe but it's only a movie, not real life.
Reply to this
We'll agree to disagree. We all have individual tastes. I can appriciate movies with gross and sexploitaion elements, but ones like this that take them to the extreme just to take them to the extreme are, to me, as pointless as they are tasteless. They are to movies what Andrew Dice Clay was to stand up comedy.
However, if at least one person enjoyed it, then the movie has done it's job.

Wow. Thanks Brad. I appreciate all the hard work you do constantly putting up content. I can't wait to get home tonight and watch this. Nice Review! I've always been a fan of this movie, after my parents rented this thinking it was a comedy. They had friends over, and let's just say, they turned it off after about 20 minutes. I could be mistaken, but I believe that the actor who played Sardu was stabbed to death after this film. I could be wrong though.
P.S. Brad, have you seen or heard of the film Human Centipede? Not sure if the Snob has a date cut-off, since most of the films you review are 70 and 80's, but I would love to see you or the Snob review that film. sounds disturbing. Peace1

Brad, Watching this review gave me an idea. Even though Radiodrome episodes happen ever so often You and Jerrid should record commentary tracks (like Rifftrax) for some of your favorite films and sell them on the website....Just an idea, Im sure fans such as myself would buy them. Between the two of you Im sure youd have plenty to say....Great video by the way, I remember being a kid and hearing them advertise Bloodsucking freaks on the radio at a local drive in...

Good idea. But NOT like Rifftrax, which is written and rehearsed and is, frankly, totally lame.
Do it like the late, much-missed DVDPodBlast where it's just a bunch of guys going in cold and making funny, off-the-cuff remarks. I imagine you and your buddies would be quick-witted enough to make that work.

I think there are three different movies for your reviews. There are the fun to watch movies. Like Porno holocaust, turkish star wars and the piere kirby movies.
There are movies that you can't make too much jokes because they are already over the top anyway. Like bloodsucking freaks. Which is not the best but it is fun to watch because of the naked breasts and torture. Also this movie has meaning. Almost like Salo.
And there are truly boring movies. These aren't even movies in my definition. Like Death Nurse 2, Death Nurse.
Good night and good luck.

Oh yes! Blood Sucking Freaks is one of, (and quite possible) my favorite exploitation film of all time. If there's need of a film to keep the cheers and laughs on a party up, this one's always a hot candidate. It's a delight to see a full length movie that takes advantage of all that playtime to cram in as much nudity, gore and utter insanity... I also love the Sardu - Ralphus relationship in this. Ralphus is probably my favorite of this kind of of evil sidekicks, perhaps some of that comes out of my own, and movie viewing friends quite specific love for chainsaw-wielding dwarves...
Yet another hilarious review. I loved the movies theatre critic comparisons with the Cinemasnob, and that you highlighted some of the movies history that I didn't know about. Thanks a ton!

Totally. I think Lloyd somehow invaded the film and was trying to talk the cast and crew into leaving the set. I guess it didn't work.
If they ever choose to do a big-budget remake of "Bloodsucking Freaks" I think the Cinema Snob should play the role of Creasy Silo. It would hardly require much in the way of acting on his part.

It makes perfectly good sense that Eli
Roth does commentary on this DVD. His work is essentially the same lurid, mindless, exploitative crap with a much bigger budget. The fact that he hails it as genius says a lot about his own standards in taste and the quality of his own body of work.
That said Creasy Silo is perhaps the greatest character to appear on film ever.

With all the boxes that had to end up in this video I'm not surprised that one nipple slipped, but I feel like I should point it out, for the sake of Brad being able to follow Blip's rules and not get in trouble. It's the scene where the detective is letting the cannibals out of their cage and the ladies are in the foreground.
I apologize if this seems like I'm being obnoxious but I know Blip has some pretty strict rules about that sort of thing.

Holy shit man... You have your own website? Someone let you speak? People actually listen?
The point of this movie is to shock and offend. The point of this movie is to work out crazy shit in someone's head. The director did not much else before or after. It isn't like he spent decades perfecting his craft before releasing this. This movie isn't meant to be perfect, it is supposed to be thrown in the face of incompetent critics like yourself. Clearly you are such a mental midget that this just went right over your head.
There was no reason to say anything about it to begin with. You could review movies you enjoy, like Mary Poppins or Sound of Music. Perhaps you are more of a fan of big budget assholes like Lucas or Spielberg. You are just upset you never succeeded in making a film yourself. I am glad you didn't. It would be so safe and boring that audiences would vomit more than they did for this movie

A the award for 'Missing The Entire Point' goes to Benjamin, that guy trolling Cinema Snob site. Congratulation Benjamin come collect your prize.
In closing though, thank you for creating the term 'mental midget' I laughed so long at that one ludicrous phrase that I nearly cried. Thank you.
