Bird's nest is VERY expensive and can go for about $300 for a box of 8, but it's different depending on the quality, and they don't make fake bird's nests. That can of bird's nest probably cost about $40 or so. Maybe a little less. Reply to this

Actually, you're all wrong. Bird's nest is made from the saliva of a bird that is specifically called the edible-nest swiftlet. The nest itself is used in Chinese cuisine. It's not a liquid, the saliva actually hardens and, as the name implies, becomes edible. It does NOT contain blood.
Bird's nest is VERY expensive and can go for about $300 for a box of 8, but it's different depending on the quality, and they don't make fake bird's nests. That can of bird's nest probably cost about $40 or so. Maybe a little less.

Nice review. Doesn't it feel nice just to relax and goof off sometimes on cam? Here is what bird's nest really is. http://www.chinesefood-recipes.com/glossary_of_ingredients/ingredients_b.php Message me sometime if you would like to have a intelligent conversation with a local artist. I only live 2 hours from you. hehe.

Great video, I haven't heard of that drink. I don't think I will try it though, I'm not much for vanilla.
If I may add, I am glad you mentioned doing more of these videos from time to time. Its a nice change of pace.
Just run away from the Placenta 10000 jelly drink >.<

I've had quite a few of those interesting Asian drinks at my old college cafeteria. Quite a few of those drinks they provided were indeed lumpy like the one you just tasted. It's a pretty normal thing for Asian drinks to have lumps in them. They usually contain things like coconut or some kind of gelatinous substance.
I agree; they're not really that bad.

This definitely needs to be a regular feature. Good video.

Chocolate Bacon Bars are actually really good.....I've had them a couple times. Now one weird food that people rave about in parts of the city out here is Brain sandwiches.....I'm not that brave!

I would suggest checking out a local japanese store or market, I have one near me and find some interesting things when I'm feeling quite adventurous. also I liked Mountain Dew Whiteout, it is very much like a japanese soda, most are kind of weird like that.

I'm liking this new show. If you want a recommendation,if you can even still find this stuff, you should try Steven Seagal Energy Drink. I bought some once at the 99 Cent store in Los Angeles. I doubt you will enjoy it because I thought the stuff was horrid but I think it would fit in with this new segment and the whole Cinema Snob thing you've got going on here. Actually, you could do a whole series of celebrity energy drinks. Not that I want to see you drink awful energy drinks but there might be a few diamonds in the rough. The Steven Seagal drink is one you definitely should try for the show though.

Your second straight beverage review drinking something I can make sperm jokes about, except this time you made them yourself. I agree with everyone who says this could be a regular segment. Whether you just limit it to soft drinks or expand it to include other foods, it could work either way.

What does it say about me that I can sit here and enjoy watching another guy drink a can of weird soda? This is fantastically entertaining, Brad, although I'm a little freaked out by the "So what if it has semen, fungus and salive in it? It tastes good"-part
Reply to this
Brad's so good he can even make drinking a can of weird soda into an entertaining experience. That truly takes talent.

I wouldn't recommend that, people might send you tampered stuff. I only trust things that I buy from the store myself.

yeah, just like what the first commenter said, this isn't the real stuff. What you drank was just sugar water really. It probably was vanilla and water.

seriously, the best part was you freaking out about the chunkiness of the..."beverage". xD
Yes, getting rid of the semen would only be a plus to any drink's marketability

Now this is something I do on a regular basis. I love trying foreign foods from the local Asian Market, World Market, and Flea Market in my town.
When I was out with my buddies around town I would go, or request to go to the markets and pick up at least one or two new things. It started off tame with snacks and drinks, and then I ate weird ass shellfish stuff, and fermented chicken feet.
Word of warning if you do continue with this series Brad. Sometimes Asian or Chinese markets rarely restock on a regular basis so sometimes stuff is spoiled. Also yeah with some of the foods (beyond weird drinks) will make you sick.

I think "white fungus drink" can also be bought under the name "Kombucha" in normal western supermarkets. Apparently many doctors recommend it to cancer patients because it slows down the spreading of tumors. My mother drank it too when she was treated for cancer.

Wow... that IS the wierdest drink I've ever seen. More amazingly is the fact that you liked the taste. The semi-solidness of it however does discourage me to ever try it if I had the chance. Maybe as a mixture with some really strong doses of alcohol to take ones mind off of the fungus and saliva content...
Reply to this
Well, it's already been said that the chunky stuff is the bird saliva. But I really gotta give you credit for trying this stuff, knowing the ingredients. I love asian food and beverages but I never, EVER ask "What is this?" or "What's in there?" before I eat/drink it. But I'd say stick with the drinks, if you want to make this a somewhat regular show. Because you can really piss people of with calling their food weird. Drinks are put on the market by a company that thinks up new flavors, food is a traditional thing. And actually, we are the dimwits for not knowing how good it is. Well, usually. I still don't want to eat stuff that's still alive, sorry guys.

If there are any more of these (which I sincerely hope there are), it would be nice to see the canned drinks in a clear glass. With mountain dew, it wasnt so bad because it was in a clear bottle.

Fun, but dude, you've gotta stop referring to all things of eastern origin as just "Asian." It probably says on the can what country it was made in, and things like "the Asian translation" is weird. Asian is not a language. It's especially not French.

Maybe in one of your future shows you can see just how tasty chocolate grasshoppers are. They're supposed to be a big thing in France i think. I remember when i was kid watching the DONNY AND MARIE OSMOND SHOW one time Donny Osmand ate a chocolate grasshopper on television. Yummy!

Great choice. Try "green river". It's sprite with the great aftertaste of dead prostitues and pregnant teenagers. That, combined with the reaction to how 'chunky' the drink was, made my night. I find myself really enjoying these drink reviews.
If you're taking requests for drinks, try the 'Spike' energy drink. It may not be available in your state, but let me tell you, it's something else: It's got more warning labels on it than a pack of cigarettes, and I am dead serious about that.

They had this at my local Asian market, so of course I had to try it! It was only 89 cents, compared to the buck-eighty-nine they wanted for a Red Bull. Your assessment was very astute. A chunky vanilla-tasting concoction that's really not that terrible-tasting. Since I needed a four dollar minimum purchase to use my credit card, I also bought a can of Coco Rico (a "natural coconut flavored soda" from NYC, tasted more like sugar water than anything), a bottle of Indian soda called "Thumbs Up" (made by Coca-Cola, it reminded me a lot of Coca-Cola Blak, which I actually liked), and a bottle of Lime Jarritos (a Mexican soda my high school Spanish teacher turned me on to...damn, has it been almost 15 years ago already?). I didn't have the courage to try the Aloe Vera flavored soda (they had 4 different varieties of it! You should try that next), or the Ginseng energy shot which was simply a vial of sugar water with the ginseng root floating in it! Really enjoying these taste test videos, Brad! Keep them up!

It sounds like it might be an energy drink version of bubble tea, which has tapioca balls in it or something similar. A few sushi places I've went to serve it and my first impression of it was a shake with little eggs in it, which would make the Bird's Nest name for this make sense.

Good job! I am impressed. It took some real balls to drink that on camera. Bird's Nest is a well known food in Asia and is a very strange type of food, even though I would compare it to Honey. I mean honey is bee shit, why not eat bird spit.
Keep it up, have some fun with this, I think we got ourselves a whole new series!!

My local asian shop was quite impressed last time I bought a couple. It isn't that bad, as noted, mostly a wierd sweet taste than anything else. If poured in a clear glass it looks more like a scent jelly candle than anything else, with flakes of mushroom held still in mid liquid.
