Let's Watch "Big Bird Brings Spring to Sesame Street"

Brad riffs a Sesame Street cartoon from the 80's.

Make sure both of your speakers are plugged in; the footage could only be downloaded in Mono.

Well done, Brad. My favorite part, Big Bird "There's Bert drinking a figgy fiz" Brad " And it's not even noon yet." The thought of Bert hitting the bottle before lunch time for a lost paper clip will keep me laughing all weekend.
And how come they were able to get the voice for Bert but not Ernie. For shame!

Anyway, good job on the riff. I'm looking forward to the next one.

I had another Sesame Street Golden Book video that contained Everyone Makes Mistakes, The City Worm and the Country Worm and Wanted the Great Cookie Thief. I also had a Golden Book video of The Hugga Bunch. Seeing this kind of stuff takes me back to the mid eighties.

What pisses me off about the video adaptations of Golden Books Sesame Street is they'd change character names. It's clear that "Delores," in this video is Maria. They also changed Susan's name to Mrs. Washington in Everyone Makes Mistakes and Slimey to Squigly in The City Worm and the Country Worm.

... yes I am a Sesame Streek geek. It must boggle peoples minds that my two favorite forms of entertainment is horror movies and Sesame Street (minus Elmo, of course.)

While I'm not going to be as negative as Mark was, this wasn't a 100 percent perfect riffing. A few of the jokes, IMO, fell kinda flat during the course of this riffing. But in the overall picture it was very funny, and something different (in a good way) from your cinema snob stuff. I too recall having this on tape (if I remember correctly, it was paired with another Sesame Street story called "Everybody Makes Mistakes", which had to do with Big Bird going all emo because he made a small mistake doing something for Maria, and everyone attempting to cheer Big Bird up).

This isn't bad at all, but it leaves me with a weird taste. Like these sort of cartoons are really harmless, so on one hand I feel they're too easy to riff. But on the other hand I think that could just be me having childhood nostalgia about Sesame Street and not wanting it to be made fun of.

They never were funny, it's just some guy attempting to be entertaining, where technically all he does is speaking over a lame cartoon or a movie. That's pretty much as low as you can go. Pre TGWTG Brad wouldn't do this shit, he would know that he'd lose viewers, because first of all this "entertainment," it isn't free, we do bring you money after all, maybe you should remove those damn ads then, and second, I bet my ass this trend with Channel Awesomish shit videos will continue now that his has a couple of hundreds of fucking tools as his fans that will swallow and praise any shit that he throws at them.

No one was saying this was free were they? And why does it matter that he has ad's up that pay his bills? That gives him more time to actually do these videos and the fact of the matter is he does a video near every day. Some of them are not amazing and it's clear he just can't think of a great topic for the day, but he still does some kind of video. And PRE-TGWTG Brad did a Rifftrax sort of thing on a car special with Pat Boone if I'm not mistaken. I forget when he posted that.

But Brad said he wanted to do multiple shows on his site so the Cinema Snob wouldn't be his only thing and it wouldn't get old, I think that's respectable and I don't know why it matters that he does multiple sorts of videos. Like I'm not a huge fan of Kung Tai Ted, but there's plenty other things I can watch that Brad does. And maybe Brad will do more videos like this, who knows? I would argue the more he does them them better he'll get but I really don't know.

Wait, why do you want him to remove the ad's again? What would that prove? That he'll do this shit for free and have some job that consumes the rest of his time?

And pre-TGWTG Brad did a riff ("What's New Chevrolet?"), so basically you don't know what the hell you're talking about (probably not even a fan, just a troll). I mean, he didn't lose viewers because of that video, he did it because he loves rifftraxs and not because of him "selling out". And who the hell are you to judge those who discovered Brad with Channel Awesome, or people who still love him even if he "sold out"? Yeah, an anonymous Internet poster, that carries a lot of weight.

BTW, Brad- I love the "Rollerball" reference when we flashed to the defoliated tree. The original RB was awesome (as opposed to the atrocity make just a few years ago). That movie really had something to say. It took me YEARS to really understand what the movie was about. You, me and Paul Verhoeven should all get together and talk about that movie some day. I'd love for you to do a Review of it. Not a Snob, of course, but kind of like the Manimal one, even thought RB it late-70's, but it's philosophy about corporatism did pervade 80's thinking of the Regan Administration that we'd be -oh so much better off, if we gave up freedom and democracy and let the oil companies run the world. The Roman orgy like party (where they blew up the tree) was so much like the Less Than Zero ultra-excess of the 80's. In this world people gave up freedom for materialistic comfort (that the bread) and Rollerball entertainment (the circuses). Now of course we are at the other end. We can see the corporations (which have ruled us for 30 years through their lobbyist firms and puppet politicians) with their short-term profit motivation have been very incompetent shadow rulers. I should see if I could find the original book of short stories RollerBall Murder that was the basis for the movie. I read it as a kid. I wonder if it would stand up today. Also, have you ever read Mack Reynolds. He sci-fi in the 70's was so much like Rollerball. I remember reading him as a kid. He predicted plastic money, cell phones, and a Second Great American Depression. Yes...I know...I'm an old windbag when it comes to SciFi....Ha....

I'm not one of those retards that bitch about people selling out any time someone becomes more popular. But I did find this particular video kind of unfunny. For one, making fun of sesame street is really hard, it's like trying to prosecute a puppy. The show at it's heart is kind of beloved by anyone who had a childhood and making fun of it, especially when it's pretty common for it to make fun of itself, just comes off as forced. The only way the nostalgia critic managed to swing it is by just going at it from the angle that it is indeed almost impossible to hate.

Aside from the material you chose, your jokes and style don't seem to fit. You're wit ranges from very dry, to convincingly pissed off. With this being a childs cartoon being sarcastic and pissed off doesn't work. The Nostalgia Critic by contrast is nearly a cartoon character with his persona, and it fits with the material he uses. I'm not saying you can't review this sort of thing, but you kind of need to keep in mind that you need to adapt, this goes for more than just this particular episode. For instance, when you were writing dialogue for the cinemax show your fiance hosted, it sounded like the snob in drag. You have to write in the voice of your characters. The snob you have down to a science, and Vic from big box is notably different, so I know you can write more than one character. You just need to keep in mind that different content can strike different tones. In particular, the obscure references to exploitation films is just distracting when it's not being done by the snob. It makes sense with that character, but it doesn't in a riff video of Sesame Street.

I actually love the idea of this site having multiple shows and ideas. The Cinema Snob is great of course but plenty of his other shows are great as well. And when you experiment with different ideas then your bound to hit a dud. If Brad wants to do more videos then I recommend Vlogs. I don't really know why, and I know I'm in the minority but I love Vlogs. Also to the people complaining that we pay Brad. We really don't, I think he only makes a few dollars off every ad and by clicking them and exiting a window you get rid of them in two seconds. I actually watched this a second time, and somehow I found it even funnier than the first go through (which already had me rolling). Very impressive. I really hope you'll do more sketches like these. (:

I still have that tape. I have a few, actually. If I remember correctly, the one with 'Big Bird Brings Spring' also had one with 'Scruffy the Tugboat', a story about an adventurous mouse that I can't remember the name of, and one about a family of bears called "What Was That?".

I don't care much for tgwtg, but Brad is as awesome as always. Can't fuckin' understand why people are complaining. I've been a fan for about 2 years now, and I think his videos just keeps getting better and better, especially Snob and Bruno Mattei Show.

I'm not really into rifftrax and stuff like that, but Brad definitely does a good job with this.

I don't know why some folks are trolling so hard, I found that the riffs here were excellent. Not all of them hit home, but most do and when they hit they hit hard. Excellent work, I'd love to see more riffs like this in the future.

Okay I gotta say something. I've didn't know that this cartoon ever existed but after watching this riff I understand why this was made.

Big Bird in this special was a whiny little bitch. All he did was complained about why he can't ride on his unicycle or play in the sand box because of the snow. WTF?!?

Those kids were nice enoughh to invite him to play snow games and ice skating and sledding but he turned them down because he said that he doesn't want to to things. What the F**K is wrong with him?

I like snow, show is fun, snow is pretty. If someone invited to play in the snow, I would start helpping building a snow fort right away and make snowballs to load up the ammo.
