Dennis Hopper, 1936-2010

Dennis Hopper passes away.  Not only one of the coolest actors to ever live, but certainly a huge inspiration to me in any of the villainous roles I've played in the past.  Hardly anyone could do it like Hopper, or as entertaining.  He's one of the greats.  I'm not any good at blog eulogizing, I always feel a little weird about it, since in regards to celebrities, I don't know them personally, but I can say, Dennis Hopper was one of the best at scaring me, making me laugh, and making me feel rightfully uneasy, which he could do all at the same time in a single role.  "No Raymond, I want you to fuck it!  Shit yeah, pour the fucking beer!"

Holy crap I had no idea he passed. It's a real shame since he was a great actor and had one hell of a recognizable voice.

I remember hearing a song by the Gorillaz called "Fire Out of a Monkeys Head" and heard a voice just narrating a tale along the to music and just instantly thinking "God that's Dennis Hopper isn't it?". I looked in the credits and sure enough yeah that was him.

Guys voice alone had some delivery and impact, and his prescience on screen was phenomenal. You never really knew what was going through the mind of his character. He will be missed.

    R.I.P Dennis

I was just looking today into David Lynche's filmography and saw Blue Velvet and remembered what a sad, twisted and fascinating movie that was brought to an even bigger standard than Dennis Hopper. You'll be missed but forever remembered.

    Dennis Hopper literally changed cinema.

With the success of EASY RIDER the ailing studio system finally gave up control of their productions to a new breed of young, hungry film-makers, which results in a decade of some of the greatest movies ever made.

Dennis Hopper will be missed. I always enjoyed Hopper, even in movies that were not that good (Mario Bros.). Hopper also did an awesome directing job with easy rider. I read about how some of the effects during the LSD trip were because of an accident with the film. R.I.P. mr. hopper.

Many people will remember Dennis Hopper for Easy Rider and Blue Velvet. While his performance in Blue Velvet was memorable, I'll always remember him as Mr. Roberts; the hippie school teacher in the underrated My Science Project.

Seriously, this man was a legend: rode with Captain America, battled Leatherface, sucked up helium like nobody's business, and was the first to take on Jack Bauer among his other achievements. A major loss.

This is sweet. It's sincere, unlike so many of the facebook statuses I've seen from people who haven't seen any of his films, just jumping on the bandwagon.

He's one of my favorite actors in some of my favorite films, especially Blue Velvet. It really bothered me hearing that he was dying such a slow and painful death, and I'm glad he's free of that pain now.

He could be in the worst film and make it entertaining! He was even a fantastic photographer. I'll miss seeing him on the screen.

I remember the first time i saw him when i was young was in "Flashback." The movie wasnt the greatest, but i alwasys remembered how great he was in it. He was great in everything. A few years ago i saw him in the documentary "Easy Riders, Raging Bulls" and i got to see what the real Dennis Hopper was like. If you havent seen it, i highly recommend it. If you can find a clip, i think you should see it.

Seeing clips of Frank Booth out of context really doesn't do his character justice, because you really need to see him in the environment of the rest of the movie to understand just how batshit insane he really is and how terrifying it makes him. It really is a sad state of affairs that Hopper is dead because the world will never again truly see his like. He was such a unique personality and brought an intensity to his roles that could never be matched by anyone else. RIP Dennis, you will be missed...

    yeah,
The terrifying thing about Frank booth is that he has a huge amount of melancholy. mixed with his insanity and that gives the character a sense of reality. In lots of the scenes you can almost feel him struggling to contain his emotions. Hopper was one of the true greats and was also one of the first of the Counter-Culture actors. Every seems to forget that he's in Rebel Without a Cause.

I guess my two favorite Hopper roles were 1) his spectacular role in "True Romance," and 2) the small role he had in "True Grit" with John Wayne, where his partner gets really pissed, chops off his fingers, and then stabs him in the chest. The funny thing is that, despite Hopper getting his fingers chopped off, that movie received a G rating from the MPAA. But I think the only thing I ever saw Hopper in that I dislike was his role in "Land of the Dead." I thought Romero pissed away his potential in that film.
