Brad Tries Coca Cola Blak
I try out a 4 year old bottle of Coca Cola Blak to see how well it holds up. Hope it tastes better than bullcock. I also crack open a bottle of Manhattan Special Espresso Soda.
Special Thanks to contributors Dan Owens, S Frazier, and all the other Coke Blak hoarders!

Man, I loved Coke Blak! Sadly its not sold here in Canada anymore, at least not around were I live. Awesome as always Brad!

"Shitted" not "shited", and I most certainly did not, those damn coffee beans did after being locked up for 4 years!

If your mother is anything like you, you should include her in a snob video!
Reply to this
If she's anything like my mother she'll be like: "You make a living doing this? Who wants to watch you drink old pop? What's wrong with this generation?" Lol.

If this tastes like bullcock, Coke was REALLY marketing to the wrong people.

Aw, I was hoping you'd like the Manhattan Special, its one of my favorites. Then again, I sip coffee like water, so that might be why.

"Brad Tries: The Movie"
LMAO.
First one didn't sound so bad... Second one, eck, I could almost taste it myself. Shoot.
Good episode. And take your time with your Cinema Snob stuff; I can only imagine how editing works. (:

Coke Blak wasn't horrible when I tried it, but I knew id only be having it once in my life after i took the first sip.
As for the MSES, those are the reactions we come to expect from a 'Brad Tries' episode
As for the Snob video. I'll be checking in Sunday for it. Speaking of Snob videos, I can't wait to see what do you have planned for the 100th Snob video sometime next month. If my counting is correct, it's the August 18th release. If i'm wrong, let me know.
Keep up the great work Mr. Jones.

The best part of these videos is always the terrible wince and the line immediately following consumption.

In my endless search for things to do...I found this for you. It's Jones Soda, the special Seahawks pack, in an ebay auction. Enjoy.

The Coca Cola Blak was probably slowly decomposing. Especially the sugar and high fructose corn syrup. That's what makes it taste like Diet Coke-ish. Plus, if it's going flat I don't imagine it tastes that hot to begin with.
I tried the Manhattan Special Espresso Soda once. I had a couple of swigs, liked it because I generally love coffee, and was climbing up the walls the rest of the day. So, good luck to Jillian with that. Hopefully you won't get tachycardia.

OMG! This was so fucking funny. Goddamn! I almost pissed myself from laughing too hard at you.
I love your reactions every time when you drink and/or eating on this show.
Actually, the interesting thing was that Anderson Cooper tried Coca-Cola Blak when he was co-hosting Live with Regis & Kelly back then.
Here's the video of him trying it:

Also take your time on The Snob videos. There's no rush at all. Just do what you need to do. Shit happens for a reason.

I thought that cap looked tight! Glad it was still...sorta ok after 4 years on the shelf. If I ever find myself in France I'll have to stock back up!

I wonder if that Espresso soda is as harsh as Espresso vodka (which burns like hell til you've had a couple of shots)
Reply to this
I've never tried an espresso. Are they really THAT strong? >>
Reply to this
I tried it once in Rome together with an italian tour guide I know from work. It was delicious, like a really strong coffee, but much less bitter. Can't tell much about the effects though, as the next thing I did was buying a bag of chocolate-covered coffee beans, which I kept eating throughout the day. But yes, I did sleep that night. Around 2 a.m.

If 4 or 18 taste off, I can't wait to see you drink the 40+ year old stuff I sent you. That is going to be funny as hell. Sip it slowly is my advice.

Ouch at your reactions to the espresso. I can only imagine, since I don't drink coffee.
You should do an episode where you take stuff you have reviewed (Likes and dislikes) and mix them together to try and make the bad taste good ;D

The Manhathan espresso woul be an huge hit in Europe, we´re everyone drinks espresso.
For instance, I drink in a normal week day 2 espressos, with no sugar, somedays I mexed with tonic water (wich it´s called marzagani). But alwyas, and that´s the most important thing to remember WITHOUT SUGAR, it completely ruines espresso.

Coca Cola Blak sounds like it probably tasted really good when it came out. I'm sad I never had the chance to try any. (I'm not brave enough to try an expired one.)

I remember having that same feeling you described when you first drank Cola Blak, when I tried Vanilla Coke in the United Kingdom.

Great episode! After watching you sample the MSES, I was half expecting Jillian to rush in with a defibrillator.
Now, you'll need to do a "Brad and Jerrid" episode, where you get Jerrid to drink that stuff. His reactions are as priceless as yours.
Have a great time with your Mom, and take your time with the "Snobs"--they are always worth the wait.

The line over the A would indicate that it should be pronounced Blake instead of Black.
I hope for your sake there was no milk in that coffee soda. I think even milk solids could turn sour after 4 years of sitting in wetness.
Well, we're all looking forward to you eventually finding out how long a soda stay s carbonated, though I can guarentee thqt if it's in a plastic bottle, it will go flatter faster. I'm also awaiting the inevitable spit-take.
Lol "Poor this on your cereal." "This is nasty" ::drink:: "This is awful" ::swig:: So nasty that he gargles with 18 year old Crystal Pepsi to get the taste out of his mouth.
So, when do we get "Brad tries 10 year old Halloween & Easter candy?" lol.
Hey Brad, if you ever get held back & you find yourself out of sodas to try, look up "Egg Cream" & try one of those.

Bitter fizzy cold espresso coffee! I know from Brad's face that it tastes exactly the way it sounds.
You should review Splice. It is very funny and a genuine oddity for a mainstream horror film.

I still have a couple of unopened bottles of coke blak. I am a big fan of trying new kinds of soda and I try to keep the ones that I know won't last. If anyone else shares this interest popsoda.com has great hard to find sodas from around the world available for purchase. The shipping gets expensive on big orders but for soda adventurers it's worth it. Keep the Brad Tries series going, it's fantastic.

I'm a homebrewer of beer/wine, so I've got some experience with how beverages age. With beer and other carbonated drinks there's two or three things in play.
First, the seal on a bottle isn't permanent. C02 is escaping at every moment flattening it and O2 is getting in and reacting with the contents potentially making them taste nasty. Assuming the contents are in a glass bottle or a can you can expect 1-4 years of normal carbonation. After that it'll decline significantly.
In sodas the acidity (citric or phosphoric acid) will last about 10 years. After that, you're going to have club soda tasting stuff barring some other residual flavor.
Artificial sweetners are going to last varying times depending on the temperature the drink was stored at with lower temps = longer. 3-5 years for Nutrasweet if its stored warm, probably.
I enjoy watching, keep up the good work!

I was thinking, it seems like fun if your tried Jones soda on Brad tries.
they have lots of fun flavors, like brussel sprout, Turkey and gravy.
I'm not sure if you can still buy the more... wacky flavors anymore. but they also do some more traditional flavors like root beer, and other flavors like FuFu Berry.
They also make candy and let you customize your bottle labels, so you could make a Brad tries bottle!
Here is their web site http://www.jonessoda.com/

Hearing about how expired soda tastes just like soda, but is somehow "wrong," has reminded me about the time I read about squid ink ice cream. The person who wrote the article described it as something along the lines of "like chocolate, but wrong." If only there were some way to force Brad to try this... delicious treat.
Oh and also the strawberry jam, turkey, and cereal sandwich from a certain survival horror game. So says mister Stewart.

A good soda to try and track down was Red Fusion. It's what cherry vanilla doctor pepper tasted like but I'd be very curious to see how it held up over the years if you manage to track one down. I haven't seen one since probably around 2003 or 2004.

I don't think this drink was ever released in Britain but it doesn't sound too good for you.
Also, I don't know if you have this in the US but if you don't you should try Dandelion and Burdock. It's a British drink which is very lovely.

Oh jesus, I had Coke Blak when I was in Prague a couple of years ago. Thought tasted naaasty, myself. The European version did come in a cool aluminium coke bottle though, which was kinda worth it.
Also here in the UK they did a "Pepsi Max Cino" a few years back, so coffee flavoured cola seems to be a strangely common idea (thought that was crap too)

After some experimenting the other day, I feel compelled to share my findings and offer some advice, in regards to Coca Cola Blak, though I'm sure this post will be lost under all that spam, but I digress.
It is... inadvisable... to try to recreate the magic of CCB at home, by mixing a 20oz bottle of Coke Zero with 1 3/4 cup of Folgers coffee (instant, not percolated. maybe 4ish tablespoons worth of crystals to the aforementioned water), with a single tablespoon of sugar for good measure.
