I remember they actually changed the look of Surge right before they discontinued it here in the states. It had the same color scheme green, red, and black (there may have been one other color) but they changed the font of the writing and look of the label.
I also remember they had some wrestling contest promotion for WCW, right before they changed the look. If I remember correctly the contest was only with 20 oz. bottles, and you had to peel off the label of the bottle and on the inside there was a scratch off game. I was like 10 around the time of the contest, and I usually ended up tearing the label trying to get the damn thing off.

Lol, I'm pretty damn sure that April/May 11 means 2011 man, here in Venezuela that's how a lot of products expiration dates are shown.
So aside from that, I never got Surge here, so not really nostalgic about this, though seeing your reactions to stuff you hate is still worth watching, Pink Panther drink FTW!

By Norwegian standards for expiration dates, 'April 11' means April 2011. The number just denotes the year, so that's drink's good for another 9 months

I drink mostly diet drinks these days, vault zero is one of my favorites but has sadly been phased out by local stores. I can sometimes find a 12 pack somewhere but they don't sell the 2 liters anymore. Same thing with diet Code Red mountain dew. So I guess it goes OK soda -> Surge -> Vault. I wonder if somebody will send you some OK soda one of these days, it was test marketed in the early 90s by the same folks who brought us New Coke.
If you're looking for a raspberry energy drink you can try Rockstar Zero Carb (in the blue can) it's my personal favorite taste wise.

Oh my god. I can't believe someone just mentioned OK soda. I used to drink it all the time when it was out, but now no one seems to remember the thing. I just remember I was sad when they discontinued it and I hoped they'd bring it back, but that never happened.
Yeah, I'd like to see someone send Brad one to try, but it'd probably fair just as well as the Chrystal Pepsi did at this point, in terms of taste.

Well, you can still buy Surge out there... since Vault pretty much IS Surge. It has almost the same ingredients (only Vault has more caffeine). The differences are mostly in color and a slightly different taste (depending on who you ask).
I remember drinking Surge as a kid and was pretty sad they discontinued it. In 2005 I was in one of the test markets and the grocery store I worked at sold 20oz bottles of it for just 50 cents, so I of course bought them by the crate-full on breaks, and I was pretty happy to be drinking essentially Surge again.

I just want to point out none of those drinks were out of date.
The USA is one of the very few countries that use the month-day-year format for dates. Denmark use day-month-year format (along with the majority of Europe), so the expiry dates would have meant April and May 2011. xxx

Here in the US if an expiration date is written like Apr 11, it means the same thing (April 2011). So I think it was just a lapse in memory or something. If it's day specific it's always written like this Apr 2, 2011 or 04/02/11
Although I noticed that nowadays they write it like Apr2011, so maybe that's why he got it mixed up.

Nice! Did not expect my contributions to be featured in the video. I too did not enjoy Triple Rush as much as the Red Sting!
As far as i can recall, urge was never discontuned fully in Norway. Though they stopped tapping them in 1,5 liter bottles, and sold them only in 0,5 liter bottles.
A Facebook group was the reason for reinstating the 1,5 liter bottles after reaching 100 000 members or something.
Its already been said but we write our dates differently here in Norway compared to the US.
While you say "April 11, 2011", we write it "11 April 2011". So the expriation dates are actually in April and May 2011 and not the 11th of April or May.

In Norway we like our caffeine. It's not uncommon for people to drink 1 or 2 pots of coffee a day, hence the need to make an Urge energy drink
I've allways found it a little funny how Americans think caffeine is such a potent "pickmeup", because it has never had a very great effect on me. :p

That was a good video, just a note about the expiration dates: 4/11 = april of 2011 and 5/11 = may of 2011. There's only month and year on stuff like that in nordic countries. Keep up the trying, it's always funny änd interseting to watch

Yeah, THAT'S why I drank it...I didn;t really like the stuff, but I remember Smith was always giving that stuff away for free too. I seem to remember there being 2 flafors of surge; one was green & one was orange.

I found a Norwegian Soda Blog where the reviewer says he has no idea what it's supposed to taste like, but guesses it's Passion Fruit/Pear Lemonade. I would have expected Pink Grapefruit personally.
Oh yeah, you can still buy Crystal Pepsi that's only a few years old. Look online for "Pepsi Clear" from Mexico, it's from 2008. You can also be daring & try a 1994 can of "Tab Clear."

anywho, I wish those who sent that to you sent you some of our more mainstream stuff, like our Fanta, which is slightly darker in colour (we have alot of rules for additives in our food and drink), and its counterpart, Solo.
and maybe our delicious red soda called Fairytale soda.
and maybe some of our chocolates too, we get a lot of good marks for those from tourists!

Man, this brought back lots of high school memories. At my high school, the main building had soda vending machines on both ends of the hallway on the main floor, and one of them was exclusively Surge. The great thing about the Surge machine was that it only cost 25 cents a can, while the other machines cost 75 cents a can. So for the price of a single whatever in the other machines, we could get three cans of Surge from the Surge machine.
...now that I think about it, that could be how I developed my caffeine resistance.

The first can of Urge tastes like gummybears to me. Haven't tried the other one.
You can't get the passion fruit and PP sodas everywhere, but two stores in my area carry them. They taste nearly the same to me.

I have two recommendations for you. The first is a Scottish soft drink called 'It's Red' the tag line to it is 'and it tastes like red.' You can find it here in Canada at most grocery stores. I've had it and it has a very odd red berry flavor that I couldn't put my finger on. The other item is a lemonade flavored crunchy bar. It tasted like lemon rind.

In a sense. I only remember the green citrus-flavored Surge, whereas Fanta had several varieties of flavors like strawberry, grape and orange. In the Western part of the United States, the Fanta equivalent is a brand called Sierra Mist.

If you take a look at the Rosa Panteren bottle, you'll find the content listings have Pære mentioned, which means Pear, so the pink panther soda.. is oddly enough a pear soda.
I love the Urge Intense triple rush, hated the raspberry one, though... i'm a bit surprised the other Norwegians didn't send ya Solo, it's a decent orange soda.
Also, every Halloween, we get a purple soda called Halloween, if i could find out an address to ya, i'd send ya a bottle of that next halloween.
There's also other energy drinks, i dunno if ya get them in the US?

We had Panther Energy drinks though, in a pink bottle. If it was a homeage to pink panther I don't know, but it's likely.
Sadly, the company didn't do well and only sold on arranged occations, so it's unlikely to get a hold of one. It was pretty good though, they also sold energy drink slushes. Weird idea, but it worked actually.

Hey Brad, I wonder if you drink all the stuff just on room-temperature or out of the fridge. Because many drinks taste great really cold and just like piss when they are warm. I love beer for example, the colder the better. But warm beer is just the worst thing ever to me...

Urge was never discontinued in Norway. The larger bottles was discontinued and came back after a Facebook-group, but the smaller bottles have been here since 1996. (I've been drinking the shit almost daily since then...)

Oh man, how much I miss thee, Surge! I kinda miss Vault, too! It's been a while since I had either. I was lucky when my mom had worked at a pretzel store that had carried Surge! So I was able to have some surge after it was discontinued, up until the stock was gone. A lot of parents thought that surge made kids hyper. It didn't!
