What makes you feel entitled to go onto a website that you don't manage, don't pay for, and don't really contribute any meaningful content to, loudly, repeatedly, and publicly insult his friends, and NOT have your posting privileges revoked? For all your arguments about how people need to develop a thicker skin concerning criticism, you seem to have very little tolerance for it when it's applied to you. Otherwise I doubt you'd be getting so worked up when others rightly point out that you seem to have an overactive sense of entitlement and a notable deficit of simple decency. No one is saying you can't have an opinion. No one is saying you can't voice that opinion. But it does not follow that because of this you should be allowed to do so wherever you wish without consequence. And when you're posting it on a website for which you bear no responsibility for the upkeep, maintenance, or updating of the site, you're doing so on someone else's turf, not yours. If a stranger you invited into your house suddenly started insulting your friends, your food, and your hospitality, are you honestly going to tell me that your response would be to simply smile and shrug it off? Or would you be loyal to your friends and family and throw the stranger out? Allow me to offer some constructive criticism of my own. If for whatever reason you really feel the need to go online and belittle others to address some need in your own life, well, that's fine. But there are consequences to every action. Whining about having to sleep in the bed you've made for yourself only makes you look juvenile and petty. Claiming the moral high ground for such an act and blaming everyone else for not putting up with your rude behavior only makes it worse. Personally, I would applaud Spoony for being a good enough person to recognize that his loyalty to his friends supersedes his loyalty to a faceless, misbehaving fan on the internet. If you disagree with that, well, such is your prerogative. But I'd strongly advise against applying that view to anything other than the internet. Reply to this

The analogy of inviting people into your home doesn't work because the Internet is not your home or your party. Posting videos and inviting comment is more akin to standing up in public with a loud hailer. Most of the people who find these sites have done so by googling a film title or subject, they are not friends or people looking for friends. They are just random people. I agree that some of them are rude. But surely that's par for the course. I used to be in rock bands. We would fork out money for PA systems, sound engineers and lights. Half the time they were for basically free gigs. We got booed as well as get the odd compliment. We put ourselves in front of an audience at our own expense, well sort of -we sponged off parents, girlfriends and local fanzine types. We did it because we thought people deserved us. We developed amongst other things very thick skins. Now if we had not wanted to attract or repel people we would have just stayed in our basement practising. Posting videos on the Internet is like doing a gig. If people think you stink. that is tuff shit. If you can't take it then perhaps You could just send emails and videos to your actual friends instead of inviting strangers to view them and comment. Though, I am mostly a polite person I support people's right to say bad things to each other in an open forum. I also think that Brad, Spoony and the others view themselves as at least semi-pro, so a thick skin should to an extent be the order of the day. Reply to this

While I agree with your comment comments in general (Uwe Fucking Boll FOR THE WIN!!), I must say, I disgaree wtih your equating of sexism and racism, above. As a proud sexist and non-racist, I find it terrible when people do that.
Also, talking about the looks of actresses/reviewers is not misogyny. Evaluating the looks of, say, Obscurus Lupa is arguably sexist, and I see nothing wrong with that (in fact, I think it is better). Misogyny, on the other hand, would be saying, "I am coming to your house to slap you because you are making videos on the internet rather than cooking and making babies, and if you ever show your face in the internet again, instead of cooking and cleaning, then I will kill you." THAT would be misogyny, and THAT would be wrong.
tl'dr: Good comment, but sexism (good) =/= misogyny (bad), and also sexism (good) =/= racism (bad).
And, of course, it is pathetic to complain about Brad's videos, or his guests, as you really are paying FUCKING NOTHING. I, personally, love Brad's videos, and ergo watch them all. I am not such a fan of, say, the Distressed Watcher. Do I go to his videos and complain and bitch? No! It would be a waste of my time and his. I just ignore him.
The only legitimate reason to bitch about someone is if you are paying them to make the videos, or if you are being forced to watch them. Reply to this

I swear to god, his fans used to be nicer. I have no idea when they started regularally inserting their heads into their asses. I think it started when he got a new influx of fans when Yahtzee gave him a shout out in an interview. Maybe. I don't know.
It didn't happen overnight. It was a slow gradual thing. But, by the time I left, it was almost to Something Awful levels. If a couple of his blog posts in the last 6 months or so are any in indication, I think even Spoony is starting to get fed up with his fans' shit.

Personally, I don't like lupa's reviews either. I find her voice extremely grating. I find her reviews excessively hypocritical and with little to no substance. She complains about padding scenes which aren't padding scenes, then proceeds to fill her reviews with obnoxious skits that have no place in the review and attribute nothing...which is a padding.
As far as the whole "THEN DON'T WATCH IT!" Tantrum comes from, I watched it for the fact that it's on the snob's site and I assumed he'd have a place in the review rather than just a plug for a bad reviewer. But I digress. The point is: just because someone disagrees with you, it doesn't make them a troll, sexist, or prejudice in any way. Here's my honest opinion of Lupa. She's ok. She's not great. She's not horrible she's just ok.
What I like about her is she is one of those reviews who I feel introduces me to something new. Every episode she does shows a brand new cool action, sci-fi, or horror b-movie that I did not know existed and I now know about it thanks to her. It makes me want to see it and its diverting hearing her talk about it. She's easy on the eyes, has a great singing voice when she occasionally does sing, and as for her humor, she is mildly amusing. She is funny, she's just not that funny.
Ontop the bad. The problem with her is her humor and her presentation. I can completely understand why people don't find her funny. Her comic timing is terrible. She has this really bad habit of rushing of everything she says. She will often rush to get to the punchline and it kills the joke. Also she talks way to much and way to fast. She never lets the movie just play a little so the audience can breathe and absorb her commentary. There are often huge stretches of movie segment which she'll talk over for two minutes straight and a lot of times its just to much to absorb and it can be grating. She also fails sometimes, not all the time, as a straight up reviewer. I hate her review of Fly 2 because she never really explains why that movie sucks. The first 10 minutes of that review is nothing but her saying the movie sucks over and over again without elaborating why it sucks and that can be frustrating because why should I take her word for it if she's not going to explain.
Her crossover episodes are kindof hit or miss. I don't want to say their bad, again, their ok, but they can be awkward and I think the problem is that she really doesn't have much of character. The character of Lupa, at least it appears, is only a slightly exaggerated version of Allison with her major character points being that she's nice, she's kindof goofy in that "Yaaayy!!", sort of way, and she likes b-movies and that's it. I think that has a tendency to clash with some of the other characters in a not so interesting way sometimes. Take Simon Says as an example. I really wanted to see the Critic tear into the movie. But I couldn't. Because she was doing the review with him and she likes the movie, so the result is kindof a meh video. Your only as strong as your weakest link.
Now a lot of these problems can be fixed with a few acting or public speeking classes or just practice on her own so I think if she worked on them she would get a lot better. She already has improved greatly from when she first started so time will tell. I think she's a welcome addition to TGWTG but she does frustrate me sometimes and I wish when I get frustrated with a member of TGWTG I could go somewhere other than Encyclopedia Dramatica to bitch about it. And so here I am. Reply to this

Oh, I thought of one more criticsm of Lupa. She's really not subtle. She just recently did an April Fools video where she reviews Star Wars A New Hope and I'm scared to watch it. She's just so obvious about the joke, its so annoying. Lupa's about as subtle as a clown with his dick out. I'm also kindof wary of that vid cus its Star Wars and you know, if you want to trash Star Wars there's plenty of room to do that now a days. Lucas' recent ventures into the franschise have been so damaging that I would even argue that it has hurt the first film which many people consider untouchable. But at this point Star Wars reputation is so bad that saying "Hurh! Hurh! I'm making fun of the first Star Wars moving cus get it that movie is good!" really doesn't hold any water anymore at this point especially with bitter old school fans like myself. Reply to this

Plus I find that many of you are so caught up in yourselves by attacking a site that gets BRad more fans. Hmm last time I check more fans is a good thing. But hey what do I know. Most of you are probably the type that think a site can surive on just a small fanbase. If you guys don't like the video's Brad post from TGWTG then DON'T FUCKING POST IN THE VIDEOS. These sites are free. I follow the Snob because I'm a cheapskate. I like free reviews I can comment on. Some times he's funny, sometimes he isn't and sometimes he isn't even featured on the site. Brad does a fine job and so do his guests.
Having said that, I don't think there's a lot of hate on this site. There's just a lot of healthy dispute and a bit whining. I don't know about, Americans, but as a Britisher, I'm constantly amazed by how mild criticisms is viewed as hate on all film sites. The one area of web "hate" and "trolling" that does sort of bother me is the stuff aimed actresses about their looks. Coz that stuff has a juvenile misogyny vibe and, thinking about, IMDB does occasionally seem to attract white supremacists!
The best thing about the Snob Site is that it's for people who genuinely like films and aren't just saying this or that films sucks or is horrible. It's a site that knows Halloween III is a good movie and that Uwe Boll is not really the worst director ever.
There are some truly terrible reviewers out there. People who can't string a sentence together and end up saying things like "This film sucks ass! Man, it's so bad! Why is it so bad? It's bad because it's horrible and sucks- ass!"
Lupa comes across as bright and fairly professional.

I was not having a go at Doc Boll. I actually like Bloodrayne. Seed, I think is a truly disturbing horror movie and along with Rampage shows a real talent for nastiness. I think Boll rubs people up the wrong way becauses he's so German.

people (especially TGWTG fans and contributes) tend to be thin skinned as all hell. The biggest example of this would be Spoony. go on his forum the next time he does a crossover where you have to see the putrid face of Linkara and criticize it.
Watch how fast he lays down the banhammer.
Reply to this
While you might be right about the subject, you definitely don't need to insult Linkara personally. I see nothing wrong about his face - and btw. think he's a pretty watchable guy, *especially* in crossovers.

I gotta say I disagree on your opinion on linkara. but whatever that's the beauty of opinions.

...Right. Because... who are you, exactly?

"The one area of web "hate" and "trolling" that does sort of bother me is the stuff aimed actresses about their looks. Coz that stuff has a juvenile misogyny vibe and, thinking about, IMDB does occasionally seem to attract white supremacists!"

(Constructive) criticism is something where you point out an flaw in something by using examples and then provide some solution that would fix the flaw.
Just blurting out generic things like "She's not making any effort" does not qualify as criticism, it's just ranting.
Reply to this
Actually that is a valid criticism. Saying she seems to not put a lot of effort into her videos is valid. Saying she is bland and uninteresting is valid. An invalid criticism would be saying "she is not pretty" or "she does not put a lot of production value into her video" as that is something which cannot be helped given ones financial situation.

I've liked Lupa's reviews since she started putting them on TGWTG. Not sure where the hate comes from, I like seeing more modern obscure bullshit like Vampire Assassin to compliment the older exploitation stuff Brad covers. And man,the green screening in this thing... Jesus...

Seems Spoony has some competition for most ridiculous fans. Yar, give it your all guys!!!!
Seriously, being fellow Snob fans, how can you not at least appreciate the movies Lupa brings to the table? Although I find her entertaining, the movies really do all of the talking.
Reply to this
Firstly I must buy this movie now
Second. Lupa's got fun taste in movies and she shows real potential, but 2 things:
1 her timing is a little off at times with the jokes (it's like she's rushing it a little) and 2 she should lay off the toilet humor like fart jokes and such. She doesn't need that to be funny. I have the feeling she can be both funny and intelligent.
But that's just me. I like her reviews and all. Just think they could be finetuned a little.
Reply to this
Putrid face of Linkara... What? Some qualifying facts for such a remark would be nice.
Anyways, I found the review quite enjoyable, but she does honestly miss the key on a few jokes here and there, but then again, unlike most of these other trolls, apparently, I don't expect perfection from an internet reviewer.
Except maybe RedLetterMedia.
Seriously though, what's with the ridiculous comments that these cross-over videos garner? "Oh my god, someone else -besides- Brad is on this site! Call the fucking internet police for the love of god!"
I guess it shouldn't be that surprising though. Trolls will troll, and fans expecting absolute gold will whine and complain that their beloved internet icon is "selling out".
Twats.

I don't go to TGWTG, so this was my first look at her. I liked her.
The people that rush to call anybody that doesn't a "troll" or a "hater," are fucking retards, though.
There doesn't have to be ulterior motives. Maybe they just think it sucks. It's the Cinema Snob site for fucks sake. It wouldn't exist without things that suck, and a guy commenting on how bad it truly does.

I didn't find her particularly appealing. I saw her The Room review as well and wasn't impressed. If you guys like her reviews, thats fine. There are a lot of things I like that no one else does, like the Detroit Lions. I certainly don't think anyone needs to give hateful, personal attacks on her. Also this suggestion that the quality of Brad's work has gotten worse since getting on TGWTG is getting really old. I think Brad is on top of his game right now. If he wants to give some publicity to this girl because he thinks her reviews have some kind of merit, thats fine. It's his business. I guess I just want to let it be known that I didn't particular like her review. Take that for whatever its worth.
Reply to this
I think she needs to shift up her persona a bit. She sounds like she sticks to the same tone of voice for the entire review.
It's okay I guess, but the voice really gives some odd vibes.
Reply to this
Well if I would have to give constructive critisism about the review I would agree with you on this point. Sometimes the text is good but the delivery is off.
And on a personal note, in older reviews she had the blonde hair which made het look almost 40 years old.
Other than that I think there's real potential.
Reply to this
And that's the thing, constructive criticism is perfect. Just don't be a cocksucker about it and everything should be fine.
If someone said "LOL LUPA HAS 100 DICKS IN HER FACE" that's one of those things that I don't think is terribly constructive. But I hate it when people think constructive criticism is trolling. People are so quick to call others trolls now it's just pathetic.
I mean I don't care for Linkara or Nostalgia Critic and I could talk about why, but those guys are so ingrained that any slight against them I make is usually seen as trolling. But now I'm just rambling.

Just because someone doesn't agree with your criticism or chooses to challenge it doesn't mean they can't take criticism. If some random person on the street comments your hairdo you just ignore that or get back with a snarky comment. There's no reason to treat anonymous internet comments in any different way.
It's just that internet commenters seem to be very thin-skinned people and get upset when their opinions, suggestions or demands are not treated as the ultimate truth. In the end your opinions is just as worthless as mine and the only opinion that should have any weight on anything is ones own.
Reply to this
Some of the commentators really are very thin skinned, but mostly it's their regulars.
Brad is old school. He knows that if you invite comment then you also invite criticism. So his site is much more open. This is why the crossover and guest reviewer stuff works. It gets rid of the private members club feel and means you get more of a discussion.
I just wish there was more Vic. The Big Box is great.

It's nice that Film Brain isn't ego maniacal, but the guy's still unbelievably annoying and unfunny as far as I'm concerned.
Reply to this
...how exactly do we have huge egos? I mean, I freely admit I do, but I'd like to know the evidence in how I display it in my videos.
Reply to this
Er. by posting video's in the first place. Most people have egos and opinions. You people post them all over the Internet! There's nothing wrong with it and it gives bored people something to watch, but it is an undeniably egocentric thing to do. I would do it myself, but I am so handsome, talented, and charismatic it would alienate lesser mortals.
Actually, I think some people don't like being accused of trolling and stuff just because they voice a negative opinion on a subject.

There is a link between Brad and this video xenophobia - people started to chew Spoony out for running Cinema Snob videos when YouTube dropped the banhammer right before Brad gave up and started this site. I never even tried to deal with the comments on TGWTG because the commenters sounded like they were 15 or had IQs of 87.

I'm a long time fan of Spoony and I used to be a frequenter on his forums, but yeah. The type of fans that have been hanging out there the last couple years is one of the reasons that I don't really post there anymore.
Also, to be blunt, there are times when people should keep their "Constructive Criticism" to themselves. This is one of those times.
Reply to this
There's a difference though, if you are giving your opinion and not trying to be a dick about it what's the problem? There is nothing wrong with giving someone your opinion. When you put something out there for people to watch, you should be willing to accept criticism. I don't see what's wrong with that as long as it's for the betterment of someones work.
Reply to this
But first you have to ask yourself, will this do any good? Will saying this on a website that she may or may not frequent ever reach her ears? And if she does, will "Please Brad, keep the rest of the TGWTG trash off this site." teach her anything about what she may or may not be doing wrong?
If that's the first "critic" she sees on the comments, I seriously doubt she'll scroll down any further.
Calling someone "trash" is an insult, not a criticism.

Exactly! If someone doesn't like something, there's only a few reasons why. 1. Sexist. 2. Racist. or 3, and most commonly, they're trolling.
Your assuming they are because of their disagreeing just makes you seem narrow minded and idiotic.

I am new to this site, and haven't seen Lupa before, so I just wanted to say that I like her. Her voice sounds a bit sleepy and monotone-ish (especially in the beginning), so I would advise her to work on putting a little more energy into her vocals.
Other than that, I found her quite funny. The hawk-and-spit after Barrowman`s `Shiiiit!` cracked me up. There may be better reviewers out there, but I certainly don`t find her significantly worse than several other internet reviewers, and I would be happy to see more of her stuff.

You know, I'm really glad yall are not in the same room with weapons cus it would be a blood bath.
