Ah that doesn't make any sense. 4:3 is cropped. I think this movie did have a theatrical release when it came out in 1975. You can find theaterical release posters for instance.

You realize you're looking at a movie that was meant to be projected widescreen, cropped to 1.85:1 at fullscreen (1.37:1) ratio, right? That's why you're seeing all the boom mics - not because the filmmakers were dumb and didn't realize boom mics were in the shot, but because you're looking at a misframed image that shows more of the tops and bottoms than was meant to be displayed.
It's a really unfair dig at the filmmakers.
