So...he did not ask you to move your coat he just decides to stalk you and harass you, from what you say he was a class act, I am sure his wife and kids headed to Walmart directly after the show. Heh, you know when me and my bud go to movies we are very respectful of others but we have had our issues, the worst being when we were asked to move over in a crowded theatre to make room for someone who showed up just before the movie began, we refused because you see we go to like 300 movies a year, we go early to get optimal seating, is this anal? Well maybe it is but that is why we go early before hardly anyone gets there to sit dead center. IF WE SHOWED UP just before the start of a movie we would not expect optimal seating, you want the best seating fucking come early like we do, at one point the fucking usher who we had said no to get's the MANAGER, now she is in our face saying things like "If you could just move over one and not continue making a disruption" and that WE were causing a problem etc, meanwhile the movie has now started, wholly shit what the fuck is wrong with people? We are two paying customers who spend literally thousands yearly at the theatre and WE are causing an issue because we do not want to move to accommodate some joker who shows up late and likely goes to the odd movie? Fuck him.

I didn't watch the first Tron till about 2 weeks ago, and im sad it took me that long to see it. better late than never i suppose. but the trailers for the new one look good and disney, despite being marketed for kids does have great writers.

as far as theaters go, i dont like them. at all. at least not for seeing movies. its just too hard to pay attention ya know? especially here in California where everyone has to look cool and talk on phones or text every fucking second.

The reason nobody has things being thrown at the screen in 2D isn't because it isn't 3D, it's because it's annoying. And 3D only makes it more so.

So I totally disagree with you on that point.

The original Tron wasn't packing a Ben-Hur storyboard. They're simple movies, and they're simple for a reason. I don't think Tron: Legacy could have been made any better without being unfaithful to the original movie.

I have to disagree with Brad on the 3D thing. I don't like the gimmicky 3D where things fly out of the screen at you. I HATE that 3D stuff because it just so darn gimmicky. And, really, it breaks the "fourth wall" so it sort of ruins the whole "movie experience" to begin with. I mean is it really that much an experience when a yo-yo or frisbee or whatever flys out of the screen at you? That stuff more annoys me and reminds me I'm watching a movie.

The DEPTH 3D is far more immersive and something that brings you more into the movie and more like you watching into a window into a real world. If you want to have goofy things flying at you and making you think a giant flag-on-a-stick is coming out of the screen at you into the real world then go back in time to the 1950s. Give me 3D that's more depth and awesome. The scenery of Avatar was awesome where it looked like you're looking deep into a real world. THAT'S far cooler than seeing something fly at me.

thank you for appreciating what this movie was. If you were a fan of the original film, then you had to suspend some reality for this movie. Okay, yeah, programs having genders and being born from code make little sense, but the idea is to believe in a reality beyond out own. I don't really get how someone could pick on the new movie and expect it to get away from the old one. Neither of them make sense from our POV, but that's not the point. The idea is that, in this (tron) reality, computers are almost DNA sequencers. And from there... well, amazing ideas are born.

About Spoony vs. Brad, people remember that Spoony is more like a critic. He nitpicks and analyzes things to death and that is what critics do. Now I'm not saying if the points he is so critical about are accurate but he stills makes his opinion based on very critical eye.

Brad in the other hand, based on what I've seen anyway, watches movies with pure average-joe mindset. He is there to be entertained, not to analyze the movies inconsistencies unless they are so glaringly idiotic that they cannot be ignored.

    This is my observation though.

I went to go see Tron today with some friends and was irritated as hell that I was outvoted about going to the 3-D version.

I was totally wrong. The 3-D in this movie was awesome-sauce. I still don't like paying out the ass for it, but it was good (better than Avatar's 3-D in my humble opinion). I think the atmospheric 3-D is much more effective than the cartoony 3-D (which takes you out of the experience). Basically, the less obvious the 3-D, the more effective it is in my opinion. I'm curious as to why you like the gimmicky crap but not this. I could understand not liking either, or liking atmospheric but not gimmicky...but liking the fakey obvious 3-D and not the more subtle stuff? Oy...

    Spoilers below.

I just got home from a day on the town which included a visit to the cinema to see Tron Legacy. I wanted to see the movie without any spoilers or other peoples opinions, good or bad, which is why I've only just now watched your and Spoonys reviews of it.

I loved this movie, and your comments about it almost echoes my own thoughts with, albeit with some differences regarding the 3D.

I don't think you explicitly stated if you watched it in 3D or not, but I'm leaning towards not. I disagree with you, this movie is the one that got 3D right. It used it to very good effect. Everyone bashes on 3D being a gimmick, and I'm not really saying it's not, but it doesn't have to be. You said that once the plot moves into the Grid it's all 3D. Not entirely true, I saw a lot of scenes that took place in the Grid that used absolutely zero 3D effects, and I want to commend the makers of this movie for 'not' going the gimmick way with the 3D.

Instead of using the 3D in that gimmicky, exploitative way pretty much every other 3D movie does, in Tron it was used to accentuate and punctuate important scenes. Like when Kevin Flynn looks at Sam and Quorra, there it is very obviously used and in other scenes it's less noticeable or non-existent.

I'm generally completely critical of 3D by this point and actually don't really care much for it. But I think that this movie showed how 3D could be used well.

There are some hurdles that 3D needs to get over if it will ever become something other than a gimmick. Mainly two things. It needs to get rid of the glasses. This is possible on home equipment like handhelds and tv's, but I'm not sure if it can be done in cinemas. Nevertheless, the glasses gotta go. The other one might be unfixable, but from what I've heard about 10% of people get motion sickness when watching 3D movies. That is a big number for something as expensive as a 3D shoot.

Anyway, back to the movie. The movie is not perfect, that much is apparent. But for what it is I really liked it. I have only one thing that kinda bugged me about it. Sometimes the music became very "Christopher Nolan The Dark Knight/Inception" with a slightly repetitive but increasingly punctuated sequence of strings. A trend I see in newer movies that is kinda hit and miss for me, where Dark Knight and Inception are the only hits. But oh man, the en credits song makes up for that, and then some! I love that song! You said you could see yourself get the soundtrack, guess what? It's on Spotify! =D

I must say that I love the costume design in this movie. The re-imagining of how the outfits looks in the Grid is a really well done and creative upgrade. The crowning achievement of it being Clu's coat he wore during the games. That coat was so incredibly badass. The only bad thing about it was that he only wore it in that one scene.

I'm glad I saw this movie. I'm also kinda glad I saw it in 3D, otherwise I'd still be unconvinced that 3D 'can' be worth it. =)

    Limit break XD

Thank you TT_TT for justifying that People who took Crystal skulls way too seriously and nitpicked way to hard. I mean seriously Indiana Jones has always been far fetched and amazing.

I love Michael Sheen as Zeus an Daft Punk showing up XD

That's why I always put my coat on my seat when I'm watching a movie.

After seeing Tron Legacy on Blu-Ray, I would've like to see you wear a Flynn Lives t-shirt in your V-logs like in the short film in the Bonus Features section.

OK, I know this is a year old, but does anyone else think that an '80's Dan crossover review w/Spoony of this movie would be fuckin' HILARIOUS? LOL!

And as far as smoking goes, doesn't pretty nearly *everyone* we usually see on this site smoke? I thought so, anyway...and there's nothing wrong with it! It's only wrong if you encourage others to do so! And no, simply smoking in front of others is NOT encouragement. lol.
