As much as I liked the first episode, this 2nd one is a HUGE improvement! The laugh track isn't as intrusive, it's used far less than in the pilot; plus Rob's voice is a lot better this time out. I'm sold on this series now.

I do agree about the laugh track in the first episode, but it really works for me here. It's used far far FAR less and it's not as loud. Also the timing of it is much better in this episode.

I am really looking forward to seeing this show evolve and improve since it's already pretty enjoyable. I am hearing a bit of echo though thats the only thing that bothered me. Maybe look into a boom mike, I dont know how much those things cost though.

Great show Brad. I can defiantly get behind this one. It combines something both me and my girlfriend love, 80's TV/Movies and Nintendo. Wrap it all up with 80's pop culture references and jokes, and in out book, you have a recipe for win my friend. Keep it up!

World Games makes me miss Cheap Seats on ESPN Classic. I think the only "sport" they didn't cover was Sumo.
...And it was nice of Spoony to cameo at 10:40.

80s Dan, I wanted to talk about that game. Well, its Commodore 64 version at least...
By the way, the guys at Epyx also did "Summer Games" (and Summer Games II) as well as the officially licensed olympic games "The Games: Summer Edition" and "The Games: Winter Edition". Yeah, when they finally had their license, there wasn't much energy left, it seems.

When I was in elementary school in the mid-to-late nineties, all our school could afford for classroom computers were old Apple IIs. The only games in my fourth grade classroom were Paperboy...and World Games.
Oh, and our fourth grade classroom also had Don't Break The Ice among its board games. So, this episode brought back MANY memories for me!

This was really good! I had a lot more fun watching this than the first episode. Plus I got nostalgic over my old party-saver California games. The Bond joke was really funny too!

This is a great episode. You listened to the criticisms of the pilot and adapted and changed everything for the better. Fantastic stuff. I, personally loved the first episode, barring that the laughtrack was a bit loud and sharp, but hey, it's better now. I have a question tho: what is the song used during Dan's ski-run called? Thanks for the great episode.

How DARE you sir! That is clearly John Barry's classic theme from "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." But if you're talking about Dan's 80's ski music, it's from "Better Off Dead."

I have three suggestions, I think you should randomise the music you use for the intro based on whatever your doing it on and not go for anything 8 bit.
80's dan doesnt seem that 80's ish with that outfit, it actually seems kind of modern like DJ's outfit during the last season of Miami Vice, I think its the jeans and the shirt color that's making it seem too modern.
amybe you should go more for this outfit to further emphasise the 80's aspect of Dan:

other than that it was a great improvement over the last episode and thanks for doing a tribute to John Barry, his work on OHMSS is my favorite out of all of his work, with bond 77' being a close second

I dig this series. BUT, if you could find a cleaner laugh track, it'd be an improvement. Current one is too harsh! But by no means will stop me from watching it. I loved 80's Dan in your New Coke review, so it's good to see that character in his own series.

Seriously. I don't understand my enjoyment of this show being on the level it is. I don't even like 80s sitcoms, but...
I don't know what it is, Brad, but you've hit the Nostalgia Hammer in such a way that this could end up something I genuinely look forward to. I was so happy to see a second episode, that this wasn't just a flash in the pan. And you're doing games now? Awesome.

I gotta say...80s Dan really needs more horrifying 80s hair. I'm not saying full "Flock of Seagulls" necessarily, but "young Christian Slater" might work.
Aaand...I can't help but notice that the game uses the *wrong anthem* for Russia. I gotta say, a company has to be pretty hard up if they can only afford the rights to the GENERIC communist anthem.

First and foremost, speaking as a person with autism, I found the "Special Olympics" joke to be very disrespectful. Second, I found this episode to be an improvement over the first since I didn't really think the 1st episode was that funny. Finally, if you're looking for 80's Dan, then try your luck at the 1986 film "King Kong Lives" one of the worst sequels ever made to the worst of the "King Kong" remakes and/or Kong Rip-off films. Just throwing that out there if you want.

As another person with autism, there was nothing wrong with that joke. The joke's purpose was to be incredibly un-pc which is why Rob was boo-ed by the "audience" after he said it. I found it funny.

First off, I want to thank you for putting Travis Crabtree in this show. I am pretty sure I was the only person who vocally called for a show with Travis Crabtree in the Geek episode of the Snob and you have answered.
I really liked this better than the first episode of 80's Dan. I liked the first one but this episode had better pacing with the laugh track and the jokes. Dan seemed more subdued as well. I also liked the effects you added to the opening. It really felt like the opening of an 80's sitcom. I'm looking forward to more 80's Dan.
And speaking of shows, i'm not being pushy, just curious, when will there be another Bruno Mattei Show? Seems like a long time since you did one of those.

Very good, Brad and crew! Thank you dialing down the number of laugh track moments and giving the fake audience more expressions (and some 4th wall breaking with the dead silence and laughing over Rob's bad line). That game looks like it would have gone over my 3 year old head if we had it. Like to see some plot for the human characters next time (besides displaying the topic of the episode). I am glad you are continuing with this and not letting it fade (Like Softly From Cable

I usually don't post a whole lot of comments, but I just wanted to let you know that I love this new series. I liked the first one, and this one's better, and I look forward to this series continuing and really hitting it's stride as you gain experience at the format and find out what works and what doesn't.
I really like your sitcom format for this here. I know many reviewers have tried having a metaplot to their reviews with varying levels of success. I think in those formats the whole metaplot idea is at best left as minimalistic as possible otherwise it gets rather obnoxious. But I think with this sitcom format you've really found a way to make the whole metaplot with your reviews work and work well. The events on the show don't feel tacked on at all, it all blends together really well, is fun to watch, and most importantly I really like seeing the ensemble cast commenting on the one item as opposed to just one person talking about whatever is being reviewed.
In short, bravo Brad, I really like what you're doing here. I think a lot of other reviewers could learn a lot by seeing what you're doing here.

The 80's Dan series is very awesome so far. I liked this better than the first video, then again I am a huge fan of NES games. Very awesome work, all of these great videos and series really make this one of the sites I have to check every day for new stuff to see.

While this show as improved since the first, I still can't fully get behind it yet.
For one, I think it's too long of a review. there we many times where there was awkward silence that kept causing me to check the time left on the videos.
Anyways, It's definitely getting better, but still need some work.

I LOVE this show!!!!! Holy shit, does it kick ass!!!! The entire format and the cheesiness of it really takes me back to the good ol' days. And I was curious when you were going to include commercial breaks. I'm glad to see you put one in. I can picture later episodes having that 80's intro where an actor would turn to the camera and smile/laugh and their name is displayed, right after seeing snippets of them from previous episodes/seasons. Keep up the good work for all of us fellow 80's fans.
P.S. - I actually saw Hot to Trot at theaters. I haven't seen it since then, but perhaps I should leave it that way.

Another great one! I totally watched these out of order, but I'm loving them anyway. Look forward to more! I like the variety of topics. A Christmas episode would be awesome, maybe covering some Dolly Parton or animated specials. And maybe some sort of episodes on toys would be cool, like Cabbage Patch Kids or Star Wars figures, or whatever. Maybe the original Indiana Jones figures and sets... Man, I'd like to get some of those, I just have Indy.
A special episode where Dan's "friends" expose him to some 80's throw-backs might be cool too, like recent sequels to 80s movies, redesigned toys and cartoon characters, and films that are set in the 80s, like "American Psycho" and "The Wedding Singer". Not that there isn't an endless supply of actual 80's stuff to discuss, but I think an occasional throwback special, or one big one, could be funny as heck to just get Dan's reaction to what is being done to some of his favorite things nowadays. Though just referencing them can be enough, I guess, like the Tron Legacy reference in episode... one, I believe.
Oh, you should do "The Worst Witch" on Halloween, ha. And/or the highly underrated Halloween 3. Maybe just "Halloween with 80's Dan", where we see how HE celebrates with 80's specials and costumes and such.
By the way, I've been watching Empty Nest reruns lately, ha. What an 80's blast from the past.
