Brad Tries Irn Bru

I finally get around to spotlighting the world's beloved orange colored drink.  Also, I try out Schwip Schwap, a Pepsi product from Germany.

And, if you're tired of drinking 5 year old Coca Cola Blaks, please check out Guru Larry's secret to making your very own Coca Cola Blak right at home!

Brad, please get better soon. With that said, you don't have to eat and drink crap in order to entertain us. I am just as entertained when you drink and eat tasty stuff as well. The main reason I watch "Brad Tries", or "Soda Jerk" as you refer to these videos, is because I like knowing what other things are out there that we don't ever see or see on a rarity. With you being sick I am kind of glad those drinks were good. I'd hate to see you get worse because of something disgusting tasting. I hope you have a good weekend with the family, and hope your illness is over with very soon.

It's unfortunate they don't sell that stuff here (even tho Germany is right next to the Netherlands).

But it's easy enough to make. You just need a bottle of pepsi and a bottle of Sisi (dunno what pepsi's orange drink is called in the USA). And basicly half half (a little more pepsi or sisi could be better tho.). TIP: It doesn't work aswell with Cocacola. Tried several brands of Spezi and Pepsi's is my fav and the one from Cocacola "Mezzomix" my least favorite.

I really wanna send Brad some stuff but I have to look into how much that costs.

Lol, Schwipp Schwapp. Never would`ve imagined you would try that out, its one of the cheaper drinks here in Germany... like, 30-50 cents for one 1,5 litre bottle. But yeah, its not actually "orange pepsi", more like a Fanta + Coca-cola mix ripoff from Pepsi. Coca-cola made one named Mezzo Mix which was probably the first of its kind, then followed Schwipp Schwapp by Pepsi. I could be wrong about this, maybe Mezzo Mix came after that, but they taste more or less the same.
The price is differs though, as Mezzo Mix is pretty expensive in comparison.

And, its my favorite drink. I actually pulled out a bottle during this review to compare your taste with mine. lol

Hey Brad the reason Iron Bru was so big in Scotland for nearly a hundred years is that it has so much sugar in it that it can help you get over your hangover on your way into work. Just imagine an industrial Scotland cold depressing but plentiful whiskey. Waking up after having one two many of those whiskeys and then trying to work on a shipyard hungover was frankly a bad idea so you slurped a bottle of this in your way into work. It certainly gets rid of the whiskey shakes. After living in Glasgow for nine months I blame four teeth fillings on this drink alone.

Anyway, being German I feel like adding a bit of history: Orange and Cola mixes are so popular around here because Orange Soda is propably the only true "german" softdrink.
Fanta was the very first orange soda, and it was invented in Germany during WWII. Coca Cola had become really popular in Germany during the 1920's, but when the Nazis took power, such a thoroughly american product just couldn't be allowed to stay on sale. But since the German populace yearned for softdrinks - and even the Nazis couldn't suppress such a mighty yearning! - a substitute had to be found. So what did they do? They simply used frozen orange juice (Spain was Europe's largest producer of Oranges, and more or less an ally of the Nazis, so Oranges were easy to come by), added loads of sugar, and then carbonated the stuff - Fanta was born!
After the war, when the german economy got going again, Fanta was bought by no one else than the Coca Cola company, and subsequently started to market Fanta around the world.
    So there you go!

Of course Schwipp Schwapp is good ^^ This is sold nearly as much as Coke in Germany. As to Spezi (which is actually pronounced more like "shpaytzee"), that is more like a colloquial term for a mixture between coke and orange limonade. In some parts of Germany it is an equivalent to the term "dumbass" so there's plenty of room for misunderstandings
Just one last question: How long did you have that SchwippSchwapp soda can? it's like 5 years that i haven't seen one in a store, since they put them exclusively into bottles these days?

    Hey Brad, Love the show!

    However, I have depressing news.

'Shwip Shwap' would of course be delicious because unfortunately, it is related to the Nazi's. Kind of.

You see, when American Company's were told to stop selling products to Germany, the two that most famously held out were IBM (who made the machines used to keep track of every Jew) and Coca-Cola who repelled their signature drink and made a whole new drink just for Nazi tastes and so no one could associate Coke with Facism.

    That drink? Fanta.

So every-time you drink Fanta, or any Orange soda for that matter, you are drinking a drink specifically formulated for a Nazi palate.

Every time Kell "loves Orange soda" he loves the Nazi drink.

So of course Shwip Shwap is delicious, it's the off-shoot of an entire world war finally united by a competing company who sees an obvious gold-mine in the distance. Is it any wonder it's Pepsi's longest-lasting fruit flavor?

p.s. I would love a shout out in a future "Brad Tries" should you repeat this information. If you want proof, watch "The Corporation" on Netflix.

You know, there is remembering the past and learning from it to make a better future and then there is being stupid and hysterical for no fucking reason. Tell the CIA (or the Illuminati, same thing really) listening in through the transmitters implanted in your teeth and bills the grey aliens said hi.

not sure if troll or just really retarded.

for one thing its called schwip-schwap and its produced by Pepsico a company founded 1965 so 20 years after WWII.

Fanta is not a nazi drink, it was invented 1940 by a German chemist (Dr. Schetelig), simply because Coca Cola wasn't able to ship to Germany and instead of closing the plants, they came up with a new drink (which was widely available to everyone in Germany for that matter), they named Fanta (derived from Fantasie (engl. Fantasy). Also Sprite was invented by the Germans, so you gonna go ahead and call every Softdrink on the planet "nazi pop" ? Furthermore, what we consider to be Fanta today has nothing to do with what Fanta used to be (originally it was milk based) and thats pretty much all there is to it.

This is like blaming Aspirin for the Holocaust because I.G. Farben, the company producing Zyklon B (the cyanide compound used in gas chambers) and the Bayer AG were part of the main group to which IG Farben belonged (not to mention, that IG Farben to this day still exists (at least on paper it does, the company never actually vanished it just no longer has any employees or any factory/plant/office etc.))

Mezzo Mix would also be a German invention (and currently is only sold in 5 countrys (Germany, Austria, Swiss, Finland and Japan (sold under the name FunMix)) though it was sold 2008 in the UK as a special edition labeled "Coca Cola Orange" which pretty much sums up the content (its a mix of coke and fanta) and currently is the most recognized and best selling cola-mix in Germany, hell I'm drinking a glass of it while typing it (and yes it comes as Zero), who knows, maybe I'll ship Brad a bottle at some point
