A bit late to the party, but I was hoping you might do a Midnight Screenings episode on Super 8. That's okay, because I originally was going to see it Friday night, but then decided to see it this afternoon.

Oh and Brad, when you go see Green Lantern next week, don't forget about one thing I want to mention to you. Ready? Here it is!

GEOFFREY RUSH AS THE VOICE OF THE CHICKEN HEADED ALIEN!

Aww man, I was wishing so hard that it would be Brad and Jake to see Judy Moody, there would have been so much rage in that review it would have been hilarious.

I really wanted to see Super 8 but I can't find a cinema near me that is showing it.

Though invented in the 1970s, the Rubik's Cube made its international release in January of 1980 (it was made in Hungary). The first batch was delivered from Hungary in May of 1980. They probably would not have heard of it in 1979. Oh well.

I'm glad to see this video is up! I got home from work and immediately went to the site but was disappointed. Fortunately, there was a new Snob video! Glad to know the reason for the slight delay. That Smurf movie looks like crap...

At first I described the alien as looking like a hybrid between the Rancor and the Geonosians from Attack of the Clones. I think LucasArts even recycled the same sound effects for the noise the Geonosians made. It also reminded me of that stop-motion demon creature from The Gate, but with a flatter face and bigger eyes.

Been sick this last week and haven't been able to go to the movies. Which sucks cause I've heard plenty of good things about X-men:First Class, and really wanted to go see it. But now this review and a few others have made me want to go see Super 8. Just don't know which one to see now.

I'm so bad at making decisions like this. It damn near takes me 30 minutes to know what flavor of ice cream i want at the store.

Is the Academy Awards going to be 10 Best Picture nominees for now on? I get it that they want to appeal to the newer generation of film folks but it is getting a bit ridiculous. Obviously there will be a top 5 and a bottom 5 as Brad pointed out and the top 5 will matter to the voters while the bottom are there just for hyping the audience.

Oh well, it is not as if I have cared for the Oscars. I just get annoyed with the new direction it is taking.

I don't know. I really liked Super 8 for the first two acts, and then once the third act hit it just became a jumbled mess, and then the ending was just atrociously stupid.

Also, leave it to JJ Abrams to fade to black on everything EXCEPT the lens flare.

Anyways, haven't seen "X-Men: First Class" or "Super 8" yet, but I plan to soon. I feel a lot more confident the movies will be solid after watching these reviews.

It's weird how "First Class" has a higher RT rating than "Super 8", seeing as how "Super 8" looks like (and sounds like) the much stronger film.

I LOVED "SUPER 8". I mean, it was probably this generations "coming of age film". I loved the character interaction, and the ending credits made me love it even more! Overall, this film made me tear up at the end, and I agree that the loss of the locket probably symbolized the new relationship that the boy will have with his father.

Why so much flack for the ending? Was anyone really expecting the kids to go all out 'monster squad' and dispatch the alien with massive amounts of fire works? Maybe fire a bottle rocket at a scuba tank wedged in its mouth, but not before mouthing a silly catch phrase.
I actually like how the alien was perceived in the movie. Not exactly an antagonist, but more so a force of nature.

I have no clue as to why the Distressed Watcher would need to make two goddamn videos about it, except for him being a giant attention whore. Good to see that you openly don't like him, though, that made me smile.

Also, there was another "Hehe, this takes place in 1979!" moment that I'm surprised you didn't talk about.
The first press conference that the dad held, and the lady who kept saying that it was the Russians. That stuck out more than the film developing bit for me, probably due to the fact that I was born in '92

There's a Brit flick called Attack the Block, with Nick Frost about da Urban Yoof fighting aliens that's a tribute and novel twist on 80s monster movies.
The Spielberg thing is interesting, but really Joe Dante actually made more of these sorts of movies.
And Brad Statham has a new one called Blitz that looks like a return to form.

Guess I'm the odd man out, but I disliked "Super 8". The film wasn't horrible, but I was glad when it was over. The plot is twisted and nonsensical, the ending has a horrible message, and it feels gimmicky. While there are parts of the film that do feel well produced, it's the ending that breaks the film down. I could go into why, but in respect to those who have yet to see the film I won't. All in all, I only give this film 2 stars out of 5.
