Brad Tries Orbitz

No, not the gum.  Watch as Jake and I try out a 14 year old bottle of Orbitz Drink.

We also sample some other drinks such as Dang!, Goya Sugar Cane, Goya Coconut, Columbiana, and a wheat drink called Boza.

I remember that Orbits stuff in Grade 6. Girls mostly drank it. Here's an ironic tip though. Someone I knew back then put the "enhancers" on their hand when we were barbecuing back then after they burnt their hand from the hot tongs and their hand felt better immediately.

Just so everyone knows, those "flavor enhancers" are just colored flavorless gelatin, and they are not medicated.

Living in Colombia, I was amused that you finally got to punch one of the most familiar and famous drinks in our country.
Colombiana really is a staple for us. You can get it anywhere, and there is people that actually like it better than other drinks. I like it too, but I'm not that high of a fan.
There's a special preparation named "refajo", where we mix Colombiana with clear beer (in equal parts). It's a pretty popular mix too for BBQs and parties.
Finally, I wanted to comment on Coke. In our country, Coke is still made with pure sugar, but I have tried the high dose sugar syrup variety, thanks to a friend who brought a bottle from USA. Being accustomed to the pure sugar version, I didn't like the corn syrup one. It just tasted... Bland. IMHO.
Keep the good work up! Waves to Jake, I love his work in your movies.

I remember the 90s and they where basically the same in the usa and canada. Lots of plaid shirts tied around the waist, overalls, bright colors, Ace of Base, and Pogs. Anyone remember that show Ghostwriter?

It's really good if you put it in a machine and it squeezes it, it has to be filtered first, it's really sweet. GOYA is a spanish fruit/drink company. Also, to eat a sugar cane, you gotta peel the edge off, and suck on it, or chew it.

Guarapo de ca~a is what you get from the first press of the sugar cane. It's not very good if it's not fresh and it's really thick. In the old days, poorer families would use the sugar cane juice to brew their coffee because they couldn't afford sugar. So, can is a big no-no. When it's fresh it's MUCH better.

I used to drink Orbitz all the time. It looks like this 80s kid's bubblebath called Petite Nette, or Roe in water.

When it was fresh, it just tasted like pure sugar water with a lite fruit accent.

I believe that is tapioca in the Orbitz. Well... that is my conclusion based on having the drink in the 7th grade... and trying to compare that memory to bubble tea in the modern sense.

It was a gimmick... gimmicks were cool in the 90's.

Reading what's in Boza, when fresh it would probably taste like sweet liquid pie crust with a touch of booze.

Brad, future request for December. Taste testing various homemade recipes & manufactured brands of Eggnog. Swear to god the last stuff I got in a carton tasted like bubblegum.

Brad, the next time you go to the water park you should just do a retrospective of water park based fun. That is the best idea there has ever been. I need to know if water parks are still fun. I have forgotten over these many years of solitude.

The internet is America? Didn't know that.

I knew the instant a thin-skinned canadian turned up a thin-skinned american would be here to defend his country.

See what I did there and do you see what you did?
I hail from the flawless country of germany where it's impossible to be patriotic, so I don't get these "my country is better than your's" battles.
If someone makes fun of germany I'm the first one to join, and I could make a lot of fun about canada as well as the us.
To keep it diplomatic: every country can and should improve. But as long as you're not getting gangraped on the street by authorities or in to jail (I never was in one, but movies suggest gangrape is a kind of tradition there, so getting gangraped there doesn't count) because you criticized something, you can be happy because it could be worse.

Wow, I completely forgot about Orbitz. I tried it with a friend of mine. I can’t remember what the flavour supposedly was (the balls were red, if that helps any) but it just tasted like sugar water. The texture though. Gack! It was like corn syrup mixed with puréed slugs. We each took one sip and dumped the rest down the drain.

I think Safeway were banking on Orbitz being the next big thing as my local one bought a whole mess of the stuff. Only a week later there were huge display barrels of Orbitz right in front of the doors marked down to 99¢ a bottle. I think that says it all. I believe that the Orbitz soft drink people cut their losses by selling the product name and website domain to the travel company for a large sum of money.

Incidentally, the little balls in Orbitz? Carnuba wax.

I tried a sugar cane drink from an Asian market once but it just kind of tasted like weak green tea.

No idea what was wrong with that sugar cane drink. Never had the canned stuff but I've eaten fresh sugar cane it's like the name implies its very surgary sweet.

You should try a can of Coconut Water, Goya sells it. Best to have it ice cold.

That wheat drink may have gone bad like others are saying. Pro-biotic means that it will increase your intestinal Flora so I don't imagine it can stay good for very long. Even milk gets iffy so close to the date.

For some reason I remember Orbitz tasting like the juice/syrup that's left in like a can of fruit cocktail. The little balls tasted like wet twizzlers. I think I had that drink like only a few times as a kid. It looked cool but tasted like canned fruit syrup.

You should definitely try Salmiak. It is a swedish licorice based on the salt Ammonium Chloride. A friend of mine is obsessed with the stuff, but the rest of the guys and I find it repulsive. In any case, it would make a hell of an episode if you can manage to get your hands on some.
