I've seen way too many straight-to-video thrillers that are just the other way aroung, where these beautiful people are acting all badly and they have occupations in where these super porny looking people are supposed to be like super smart and 'cos they ain't good actors you just know they have no clue what they're talking about, that they're just reading off a script and trying to look good. And I'm sittin there waiting for these people to start to fucking, 'cos it's just like the plot part of a porno movie.

I hated the Nightmare on Elm Street remake. But I didn't mind the Friday 13th remake at all.
For me the main problem with NOES was that it was green tinged, sub-Gothic MTV movie making at its worst and lacked all the humour, surrealism and energy of the original. It reminded me of the Psycho remake. Scenes were done virtually shot for shoot, only they were botched.
To me Friday the 13 was just another sequel and an opportunity to watch Jason kill a load of youngish people. I think I didn't mind it because, much as I love the series, Friday 13th was by design fairly mercenary in the first place.
The remakes I hate the most are The Hitcher, NOES, Dawn of The Dead and TCM. I wasn't sold on the Crazies either, I think it's because the originals were idea and subtext driven. The Hitcher, despite what Eric Red says, had a strange almost homo-erotic relationship at its core which was lost when the lead was switched from boy to girl. NOES was light and playful. Dawn was an interesting blend of social comment and extreme violence with music by Goblin. It's remake was just bland mundane by the numbers film making. TCM has the parallel family thing, vegetarianism and the idea that the "normals" were incredibly cruel to the disabled Franklyn. It's also funny. The remake was real dark and stormy night stuff with only Jessica Biel's fine rump to recommend it. And in the original Crazies Trixie doesn't turn people into zombies. The infected don't even know they are crazy. Actually the Crazies idea was picked up on and done better in Impulse, the one with Meg Tilly, not the Shatner killer gigolo movie.

I liked the Nightmare remake too. It wasn't awesome, but I enjoyed it on its merits.

You know, when it cam to the remake of NoES a lot of peope either hated it or loved it. Some people have even gone as far as to create their own ideas and while most were remakes or sequels, but I came upon someone who has taken on a whole new approach, he has come up with an idea that would give the fans what they want(Robert Englund as Freddy one last time)and create an entirely new story. If you get the chance, hear him out on the radio show "Rabbit in Red Radio" which is on the website "Horrorbid.com". Here's a link to the show http://www.horrorbid.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=294&t=13534 please give him a listen and if you want to know more about him just email me at anytime, he is gaining a lot of attention, but more is always good.

I have to disagree with the opinions on the police in Dark Knight here, there was an explaination for the police, it wasn't incompetance, it was the fact that corruption was running rampant throughout Gotham.

Brad, I think "Forced Entry" was remade as a slasher movie. I'd have to look that up on IMDB.

Forced Entry was remade by Jim Sotos, of Sweet 16 fame, in 1975 with Tanya Roberts. The basic story line is the same. I think it's more like a fairly slick exploitative 70s thriller than a slasher film.
