That Tommy Gun on the plane scene was amazing!

Dear Brad,
Do you watch Animation Lookback?

I've been wanting to see this ever since you talked about it on the first radiodrome episode. Glad you snob'd it, this was a great episode!

Had to stop the video just a few seconds in to tell you I like the use of War Bonds stuff at the begging. Stay awesome Brad!

Not gonna lie, that plane seen was amazing. That is one of the single best things I've ever seen on film.
Interesting coincidence with Mr. Watson, eh?
By the way, anything Ward Bond does can be incredibly awesome.

Very interesting. Shooting down a German fighter plane with a Tommy Gun alone is enough awesomeness to make this movie good. Obviously the war was not over when the movie was made, so that ending is understandable.

How did you get Lloyd to look at you like that, it was brilliant. If it was luck then Mattei must have smiled down on you, or up depending.

I guess Captain America wasn't the only one selling war bonds. Hell, his appearances was more awesome than that!
I like the idea of the Snob reviewing old-time golden-age films that many of us probably don't know about. I'm sure he can do films from both the 30s, the 40s, and the 50s. Maybe do serials, cartoons, or short films too. The possibilities are enormous!
Reply to this
Fun fact, the military did use Tommy guns back then, but they didn't use the magazine we tend to think of these days very often if at all.
Reply to this
Loved the Captain America reference at the beginning and the clips of Brad doing the gangster impersonations in black&white filters are fantastic.
The tommy gun shooting down the plane is genuinely glorious.

I liked the after credits clip. Haha, it's like doing that is nothing at all to him. Haha, I'm explaining the joke. Haha, it's still funny.

You know, the scene where Hitler gets shaved, without the visual of the razor and the shaving cream, pretty much sounds beat for beat like a rape scene. Considering the usual stuff you do here, I wouldn't have been surprised if it actually was.
Reply to this
Very awesome. I hope other Ward Bond movies have him playing a character this awesome. He could give Pierre Kirby a run for his money.
Toots, dames, Bugs Bunny cartoons, smoking, the 40's were awesome. What happened to our country?

I was half-expecting to see a reference to Chaplin's The Great Dictator--one of the best satire movies ever produced.
And you should 'snob' more older movies from the '30s, '40s, & 50s. I think it'll work.

That was fantastic! Good job reviewing this movie. By the way, happy birthday to me. I'm 30 now.

Awesome as always dear chap. Might I say you're gonna be in heaven at that horror convention being in the same room as Caligula himself .... MALCOLM MCDOWELL!!

That was great. Please review more oldie flicks!

More Bobby Watson films!

"I HATE Illinois Nazis!"

That was an awesome review. You should do more movies from this time. You should also maybe talk about the Propaganda films like the bugs bunny ones or gremlins from the kremlin. Well, time to go re-watch the Not See Kola review. Can you guess why?
Reply to this
I know you implied at the start this is probably a one time thing, but I'd absolutely love some snob reviews of films from this era, if not as the snob maybe as a spin off.

"Snob Noir"
Maybe have Jillian dress up as a woman hiring Brad who is a private investigator.

I loved this review. Actually, if you could, it would be fun if you could do a review of a small film in 1951 called "I Was An American Spy". Sure, it's not very exploitative but it is a rare gem among WWII films all the same with Ann Dvorak in the leading role. It's an American spy flick based on a true story. Sure it was on TCM but that wouldn't stop you, would it Brad?

Great review. You should review some pre Hayes Code movies. Better yet, review the film 'Child Bride', a movie so awful even Mystery Science Theater wouldn't touch it.

Finally the snob gets high on camera!

A movie which the Cinema Snob ACTUALLY LIKED... that was cool. I actually love when these critics like a movie, just as much as when they bitch about movies.
This movie actually looked quite cool. And it was a review of a unusual movie for the cinema snob (not being a slasher-film).
So all in all a very good video. And the movie looked cool too.
But personally i think they should make a sequal to this. In which Zombie ALIENS comes to the aid of the nazies at the brink of the third reich destruction. All dead NAZI soldiers will become ZOMBIES. All living nazi soldiers will become SUPER MUTANTS. And hitler will become a mecha-super mutant (just like with shredder in turtles 2). The third reich rizes from the ashes, and only the flu kills of the alien-nazi-zombies.... or a better thing. But i have always wanted to see aliens, nazies and zombies combine forces against humanity, that could be such a cool movie. Sorry for the rant.

Nobody seems to have caught the Gremlins reference yet. Either way, Ward Bond kind of reminds me of Mike Hammer, the film noir detective. Great stuff

Why is there no Not-See Kola reference/cameo?! Drinking Not-See Kola and while someone shaves Hitler's mustache...sounds good to me.

That tommygun scene... McBain rip-off son.

That tommygun scene reminded me of the episode of Futurama where Bender joins the mob and has to shoot down the Planet Express ship.

Finally! I've been waiting for this one ever since you talked about it on the original Radiodrome series. Awesome!

Tommy Gun taking down a fighter plane, just awesome.

Hahah, the way the snob and cat locked eyes for a moment, then both went back to what they were doing, was classic.

Great review brad. BTW when is paranoia coming out on itunes.?
Reply to this
It's not. Originally we were going to put it on itunes, but we'd lose more money than we'd make back for the movie.

This is what I'm talking about. Do more old stuff like this along with the timeline you have already.

I laughed my ass off when the opening credits ends and you referred to the racist black face bit , cause I expeted to see it. XD

This review was fantastic, and a entertaining movie to boot. I've gotta say, how the movie resolves the death of Hilter was actually rather awesome. Especially the head shot to make sure.

When I saw the staircase raise up when they went down to the secret room I thought "Great, they're going down into Grampa Munster's dungeon."

The way this movie does a 180 in tone reminds me of an SCTV sketch where John Candy playing Tom Bosley talks about a cheesy movie from the 1940s that takes place in a courtroom, then someone comes in and announces that Pearl Harbor has been attacked, and the characters stop what was going on to say they're going to join the Army and sing a patriotic song in front of the American flag.
I guess it was a common thing for movies to do at the time.

If Billy Watson is from Springfield and made a killing as Hitler. Does that mean that since I am from Decatur than I should be able to make a killing as Stalin?

That has to be the (second) best Snob episode of the year so far. The references made were so memorable I forgot the potential ones that weren't made (Not-See Kola & The Great Dictator). This film makes me ask why weren't there more mobsters in World War II.
Reply to this
To be fair, people from Springfield are very Hitler-like.

I love this review! Your funniest in a while. "Ward Bond just called Hitler ‘toots’!”
I was a little worried as I was eating dinner while watching this and didn’t want another “eyeball fellatio” moment. Then again, it’s Hitler: Dead or Alive, not Hitler: Blood and Guts. Then again, that might make a good exploitation movie.
Concorde: Airport ’79 totally ripped off the “airplane gun battle” scene from this movie. Only it was a lot stupider when they did it.

Knowing this was made during the war, those German SS uniforms(which are ceremonial and were never used on daily patrol as seen here)are most likely authentic! Neat!

I'm trying to come up with some kind of joke along the lines of "They Shaved Hitler's Brain", but it's just not working.

This movie convinces me we shouldn't have dropped fire bombs on Dresden we should have dropped Al Capone on it!

WTF WAS THAT
also more Bob Watson Hitler movies please, I want to see if he has his own "Downfall" styled Hitler speech
Reply to this
He's from Springfield, IL? I don't know if I should be proud or depressed by the fact a Hitler character-actor hails from my hometown...
Regardless, this movie looks glorious compared to the usual schlock.
Reply to this
Great video! I definitely wouldn't mind seeing you review more films from this era.

Maybe we need to put together a Downfall parody that informs Hitler that an American named Brad Jones has released a review of "Hitler - Dead or Alive"

This is clearly an influence on bastards and interesting in a historical way. But it is not quite an snob kind of movie. The snob would watch fellini, pasolini and kubrick. Not boring war propaganda.
And will there be an new pierre kirby episode?

That Lloyd moment was perfect. He looked at you right when you looked at him. -sigh- I love your cat.

How did you get Lloyd to do that?

Of all the episodes, I think this ones the most charming in that old-timesy way.
As for your comment 'Are you trying to tell me the Nazis are evil?'; at the time (1942) Hitler had been in power and at war for years. Changing the publics opinion on him would've required propaganda like this; he didn't win Time Magazine man of the year for nothing, he was highly thought of in the 1930s despite his tyranny.

I had a lot of fun watching this one, Brad. Awesome job!
And hey... you did a Pierre Kirby Week... so what about a Bobby Watson Week?
Nah, just kidding. Keep up the great work!

But hey! If these guys have really got him, the Germans might have win the war! (They loose WWII mainly because of his mad orders during the Eastern Campaign). From the 1941 it`s him (his megalomania) who was the greatest threat for the Wehrmaht, ask the historicians.
