Great review, Brad, but c'mon, I love the McRib!
Surprisingly, for my Film Studies thesis, I'm going to be talking about the films of HGL and goresploitation in general, and how and why it was more successful in the south and midwest compared with the coasts, and how the drive-in played a big part in that. Was wondering if you did any scholarly work in this field I could draw upon for my thesis? I'm still in the gathering stages.
    Again, great review!

Hey, Might have something for you. In October 8 2010 HGL did an interview with Coast to Coast AM where he talked about some of his movies and how he used the "please don't go see this movie" trailers as a draw. If you want I am subscribed to the Coast to Coast AM audio stream link and could get you the MP3?

It's not, trust me. It's more like the Wizard of BORE. Basically you'll watch a man in a bad stage magician get-up attack mannequins filled with red paint. There's some stuff about mass hypnosis but it's all very vague and the ending is an attempted twist so hackneyed and clumsy it'd make M. Night blush. You can look it up on Youtube. I certainly wouldn't PAY to see it.

But seriously, you want your curiosity for HGL piqued? Try The Gore Gore Girls. Gore, strippers (including a HILARIOUS strip scene to oompah-band music) and comedy. Henny Youngman's in it!

Personally, I vote for Color Me Blood Red because it tried to be kinda arty. Sort of.

This movie is great. So funny and ...unprofessional.

The acting is so strange it seems like people seem to think they're in a comedy. I think the best part was when Faud was speaking to the mother, and got so caught up in being eerie that he nearly gave away his plan to her.

"He also co-directed Monster A Go Go"

Oh , so he's an asshole , then.

Monster A Go Go was by far the only movie riffed by MST3K that I hate with a passion.

I never hated a movie in my life so bad like that movie , it was boring as hell , almost nothing happens in it , and had the worst , most terrible twist ending in the history of cinema , even the riffing of Joel and the Bots couldn't save it !

unlike other bad movies like Manos and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians , which are both charming in there own way , and became one of MST3K's best episodes.

anyway , nice review , Brad. but you should review more movies from the 40s , your review of Hitler: Dead or Alive was amusing to watch. ^^

also , review Blood Diner next , just to piss off "Q your face X" !

    PS: LLOYD !! @_@

I would put most of the blame for Monster A-Go-Go on Bill Rebane. HGL could be counted on to deliver the exploitation goods when it was a project he cared about (clearly not the case with Monster A-Go-Go). Something you clearly CAN'T say about Mr. Rebane.

Oh, and Monster A-Go-Go is at least paired with the unintentionally HILARIOUS Psyched By the 4-D Witch on the Something Weird DVD. In fact, I'm surprised Brad hasn't got to that one yet.

Oh yes. Fun classic flick indeed. I like how you snobbed up in this, made it very obvious you gave a character's opinion of the film.

Didn't know Herschell was involved with Monster A Go Go... I don't feel that one doesn't have any trace of the zany magic of Hershells flicks.

Ishtar wasn't exactly an Egyptian goddess, but her cult was a big hit in Egypt, especially during the time periods when they had their most popular pharoahs, Ramesses and Tutankhamun and Amenhotep and so on. Egyptians would have called her "Astarte" however. And I have no clue what the ritualistic murder is about.
