actually it could be an isp issue(which is weird because this is the first time i've had trouble downloadin these). Downloading it normally goes to 1.8 and usually gives up after an hour at like 8%, however, downloading with a proxy site actually goes the normal speed for me. I have verizon fios for reference.

I'm going to agree with you on that one because I have Internet Explorer. But now it seems that downloading works much better now.

    I had problems with this.
Anyway VHS was and is great. OK the picture quality can be poor and on some old tapes the sound can go. But there's the trailers. The fact that you could just stop them and start them again without spending an hour arguing about where you got up to. They don't stick. The cases still look awesome. They virtually give them away these days and you find loads of stuff that's difficult to get anywhere else. VHS wasn't some prissy thing you didn't dare breath next to. And even the constant altering of the tracking was sort of a ritual.
Also VHS, for you youngsters out there, was a revolution in the days before everything was in the ether. The rental experience was fantastic. If you couldn't find the film you wanted, you just picked films by what was on the cover. We used weekend horror marathons in the days when even the bad films were cool enough make it worth doing.

I remember owning a copy of the original Halloween on vhs. I want to say it was the an anniversary edition, but I can't remember anymore. The thing though was it was a full screen version. I didn't know this at the time. My favorite moment in the entire movie is when Michael's face slowly is revealed behind Laurie while she is walking through the house near the end of the movie. I always thought the lighting and the atmosphere was great in that scene and it really made you feel the terror from this guy. Yea, the full screen version of that movie completely cuts off that moment. All you see is her standing there and then Michael tries and stabs her. Thanks to that movie and that scene in particular I refused to ever watch a movie in full screen again. Also, fuck the special editions of Star Wars!

I think the best releases are the versions the original are shot in. If the original is shot in full screen, release it in full screen. I hate the forced widescreen used in releases originally in full screen, Some animated releases do this. This brings a different type of cropping.

Not to be annoying, but film stock is significantly higher definition than 1080p HD.

I agree with Brad that the clean up studios do sometimes sucks, however many of the movies he loves, unless shot on "shiteo" were originally in HD when they were filmed and shown in theaters.

I agree as well, but Brad does need to give blu-ray more of a chance. At first it is kinda weird to watch films in HD but he will get used to it. I liked that you did point out about the fact that film is way higher resolution than 1080p!

What's wrong with Mary Elizabeth Winstead? Yeah, I wasn't all that impressed with her performance as Ramona in the Scott Pilgrim movie, but that has more to do with how her character was written, not her performance. I think she's a fine actress, and a very beautiful woman (and apparently a nice, decent person).

Is that why Ghostbusters looks so odd on TV? I thought it was just me.
