Once I am safely on a plane I will call you and tell you where the money is." ANYTHING to make sure he wasn't around when the money was transferred! My only disagreement is that I feel like it is integral that Gosling looks so clean cut. That feels like part of his character, that he is maticulous and has created a self image to kind of cover his darker nature. He is trying to play at being a normal human being, and so everything is about control, including how he presents himself. It also makes his sudden violent acts more dynamic, almost like a Ted Bundy sort of logic. The image doesn't seem to fit the actions.

Also, if he were more gruff, the romance wouldn't have been so innocent and effective at the beginning. There is a LOT of 80's stuff being done out there. Jupiter and Tesla Boy are really good as well as College and Electric Youth who were on the sound track. There is also bands like Flashworx and Power Glove who do amazing 80's stuff. The best label I've found is Valerie and they have an AMAZING compilation called "Valeries and Friends" which is essential listening if you want to find out about some of the new stuff. It's really a shame all of these guys are so unknown.

Loved DRIVE. You might want to check out Walter Hill's 1978 flick THE DRIVER... opening scene may give you a little déjà vu!
