I check out these two new movies, plus talk about some other stuff like "The Devil's Double."

I loved hearing that you really enjoyed the Muppets movie! I really want to see that one but as things are the next big movie I might see will be next year as Holidays are getting my way!
I hear the Muppets are really funny and it's a lot like the old school Muppets of Jim Hanson's time! not like the 90s and 00s era one that were firing out direct-to-video movies of!
As for your Hugo review I didn't get past the point in the video where you referred to the little robot before my internet went Ape shit on me and could finish. But from what else I've heard it's a beautiful movie and has some of the best used 3D out there! I'm still confused on what the story is but I'm sure I'll get it more when I try this video again tomorrow!
So, you didn't take Jake to see these movie!? For shame he said he'd love to see the Muppets if I do recall from one of ya'll's other reviews!

No mention of the shitty ending of the Muppets in the credits? Huh. I loved the movie up until that point, but that was just really lazy writing...

XD My question from Bone Crushers just got answered. Nice to know you enjoyed the Muppets, I loved this movie to death. Being someone who watched the original Muppets Show, this film does the series proud. Here's hoping Jake got to enjoy it after the shitty summer he had to go through.

Don't forget about Sherlock Holmes 2 on the 15th! I'm sure your wife and your friends' wives will enjoy the masculine talents of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

Plus, Mission: Impossible IV comes out on the 16th but only in IMAX theaters. If you can, I suggest checking it out at Chicago's Navy Pier IMAX Theater so you can also check out the opening prologue for The Dark Knight Rises.

I'm pretty dissapointed that my theater doesn't carry Hugo. I really wanted to see it. Maybe they'll carry it when Christmas comes.

Finally, when you mentioned We Built This City in The Muppets, I can picture you and the other TGWTG critics in a music video singing to this awesome 80s classic. Yes, I too adore this song!

CoolFunFactKids: Most of the music in the movie was actually written by Bret McKenzie from Flight of the Conchords.

Well I had been wondering whether or not to go see Hugo, but this pretty much clinches it, thank you Brad, you haven't steered me wrong yet - and on that note - HURRAH for the return of the midnight reviews! They are always so... visceral.

Just one quick thing, so far as I know Jason Siegel didn't write any of the songs in the movie. They were written by Bret McKenzie from Flight of the Concords. Maybe they worked together to write them but Bret did work on the music.

    Hugo - 93%
    The Smurfs - 23%
    Spy Kids 4-D - 22%
    Mr. Popper's Penguins - 47%
    Cars 2 - 38%

And you saw Spy Kids 4-D with him...

Apologies for my mistake on "The Muppets" soundtrack. Given that Jason Segel wrote the music in some of his previous movies, and wrote the script for this film, I just asumed he wrote the music for this too. Anyways, my mistake.

Please, if you haven't done so already to watch the original "Girl with the Dragon tattoo" from Scandinavia, so you can do a comparison of the two.
Scandinavian fans of your show probably want to know what you think of them back-to-back.

Just got back from seeing "Hugo" in 3D, and I LOVED it, alot more than I thought I would, I didn't expect it to be such a love letter to film, but the moment I realized that, I realized why Scorcese made this movie, the 3D was great and the music was awesome, I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it because the trailers make it look more kiddy than it actually is, and Ben Kingsley was great as always.

I saw Shame this summer. It was really entertaining and didn't really feel like a documentary at all. (I hope you did say "Shame" and not something completely different, or I'll feel like an ass mentioning it here).

The Muppets has been my favorite film-going experience since Xmen First Class. The theater was empty, so I was allowed to laugh hysterically and cry like a baby appropriately. It makes me hope The Muppets will make a real comeback.

Now I want to see Hugo even more than I already did! Must get money. And one of those job things. Boo.

Hey Brad, huge fan, but I'm disappointed in your complete disdain for rap/hip-hop. Is it because you did not get exposed to it much socially or is it just not aesthetically pleasing? I don't judge others by their musically taste since it is arbitrary, but if its the supposed hokey-ness of it that makes you hate it, I find it odd you'd praise "We Built This City" (which I find extremely goofy and corny) and bury rap music. Granted, today's popular rap doesn't do it for me, but their are some indie artists today like Blueprint and Mac Lethal who are fresh and new and completely different from your definition of what rap represents. Not to mention DJ's like RJD2 or DJ Shadow who blend 80's music, along with other styles to create songs almost anyone can enjoy, even if you are a hardcore 80's fan. Just had to say something and defend the my music of choice and thanks for giving us the forum to do so. Also, I really did like Hugo A LOT, and you are 100% right about how amazing of an experience it is.

Yeah, I kind of feel the same way, but I get the feeling that it's personal taste, not snobbery. He kept a complimentary reference from Brian about the Beastie Boys' "Fight For Your Right To Party" in the "Hot To Trot" review without putting down the BB, and didn't slam Insane Clown Posse while discussing Rudy Ray Moore's appearance as Dolemite in "Big Money Hustlas", so while he doesn't care for these artists personally, or their style of music, he isn't really hating on the rappers, hip hop, or people who like the music, he just doesn't enjoy it himself.

Great reviews Brad! The minute I finished listening to it I knew i just HAD to go see Hugo so I gave my friend max and call and we headed up to the nearest theater, shelled out the extra bucks for the 3D showing as you suggested(btw am i the only one who thinks someone should invent 3D glasses for people who wear regular glasses cause it's awkward as hell to wear them over mine XD) In any event after watching him beat an 80's arcade game while we waited we caught it in all it's 3D glory and WOW! You weren't lieing. It was EXCELLENT! EASILY the best film I've seen all year. So thanks for the recomendation, I'll def be buying it on dvd when it comes out.
