Funny thing, I tend to love The Fly remake more than the original the same way most people would love The Thing remake more than the original. It's because that most people like to believe that the originals from the 50s are as campy and cheesy that the decade is often represented with the sci-fi/horror genres.
In the case of The Fly, I do prefer the remake while I found the original suspenseful. The famous "Help Me" ending as unnerving as it is, I can't help but think if some may find it funny because of the close up of David Hedison's web-covered face looking like an old woman screaming "I've fallen, and I can't get up!" But let's not forget that Vincent Price was in the original, and he starred in plenty of good horror movies throughout his career.
With the remake, I'm more emotionally involved with the characters and I agree with Dane that both Goldblum and Davis gave great performances. This film has a great balance between horror and drama, which is why I prefer the remake over the original. Reply to this

I also took great offense to your comment it" Jap-animation crap". You insult the great people at Mike Young Production (the new He-Man) and Studio 4°C. (new Thundercats - Also you are kidding yourself Josh sinee the orignal Thundercats WAS ANIMATED IN JAPAN AND HAD A JAPANESE ESTHETIC TO IT) These animators worked hard to help create familiar characters for a new generation and the older generation. Instead of the characters being locked in a old bitter man VHS collection.
Your argument of the old shows being better would be like saying Superfreinds is better then Batman: TAS (which Bruce Timm's designs were heavily inspired by Akira). You can make an intelligent and well written show that appeal to kids and adults. You have to evole franchises which can lead to misfires like the Bayformer films but Hasbro also gave us Beast Wars and Transformers Animated which were fantastic and loyal to the G1 mythos of Transformers. Even look at the new My Little Pony cartoon, Laurn Faust took nothing and made it not only into one of the best new cartoons but one of the best shows I've seen in a long time.
Also modern kids DID watch the older Thundercats because it aired on Cartoon Network's Toonami throughout 90's and earlt 2000's. in which my girlfriend Only 23 ALSO grew up with Thundercats. And she likes the new one as well.
Even the people on He-Man.org LIKE the 200X series and those characters have been incorporated in the current Masters of the Universe Classics toy line so a majority of He-Man fans have excepted it.
Josh your just a bitter old man and sadly while you have great knowledge every time I listen it just gets more frustrating to sit through. While I disagree with Brad on the Thundercats and He-Man issue, I respect his opinion because at least he likes new and different things and give a more credible opinion then you do.
Please Brad and Jarrid keep up the good work and positive opinions because you are outweighed by "I don't like anything" Josh.
Oh and Josh, for some who likes FRitz the Cat you have mo right to comment on anything about animation. I like Ralph's work but even I found this one had to sit through. Reply to this

* Josh (aka the other guy): Those beta tapes you got, where they original or recorded from TV? (it would be cool to see old commercials from tv, i think). And that "Nazi-Snakes on a submarine"-movie sounded awesome.
* It was cool that you people talked about Kevin Smith, I really loved his movies (not cop out, but he had less control over that movie)
* I was supriced that Josh hated Cronenbergs The Fly - i was sure it was right up his alley. And it was cool.
* But HOW can you say that Paul Verhoven's career sucked in the 90ies?? How about STARSHIP TROPPERS. That was an AWESOME movie, even if it had those Beverly Hills 90210 elements in the begining, it still was such an awesome movie - just as awesome as ROBOCOP and TOTALL RECALL. I think.
* Josh: Jerrid actually knew more about the police academy franchise than you in this series. Jerrid pointed out the animated series... and yes it was there. It was bad, but it was there.
* You always say that Resevoir Dogs was a rip off. And yes it was. But just as Tarantinos first successfull movie was a rip off, so was Sergio Leones A fistfull of dollars (of akira kurosawas yo jimbo, or something).

Both Thundercats suck. The older one had shit animation, shit voice acting, and shit writing.
The new one just had shit writing.
