I guess the problem is that cable channels operate on a very thin margin. Watch some of those really high number channels and note how few unique commercials they have. After a while, the need grab every last viewer possible leads them to showing anything they think will get people to watch, or just ripping off ideas. Also, buying up reruns is a cheap way to fill out a schedule, and it's easier to just take what's cheap and try to justify it later then to actually hunt down relevant programming. That's why every channel has a show now about either hoarding or ghosts (I'm waiting for a show about people who hoard ghosts) or why you can find House and NCIS on 8 different channels. Actually, I think I can justify their showing of "Friends," and it kinda makes sense if you think about it. I mean, I remember them showing "The Brady Bunch" in the '90's, which was still just under or exactly 20 years old by that point, but now it's the 20-teens, so they're showing a show from the '90's, which would now be just as old as "The Brady Bunch" was then. Does that...kinda make sense? Or am I just sorta wrong? lol Reply to this

If you're looking for classic TV these days, one place to check is the secondary and tertiary digital channels that local stations broadcast. In several markets, one of them will be a "retro" station of sorts. Ours shows a lot of black and white crime shows on Saturdays, such as Peter Gunn and The Fugitive. They also show stuff like 70's Galactica.
If you have cable, they tend to stick these channels up in the four-digit numbers. I was hopeful the new extra digital channels might be a return to old school UHF programming, but it seems more stations are content to just run syndicated re-runs or a 24/7 weather feed instead. Reply to this

In a PM with Jerrid in regards to his disaffiliation, he simply told me "Yeah, it sucks". From Brad's side, aside from the final joke, which is more an homage to M*A*S*H than an outright slam, Brad has done the same. I think both sides should be commended for their civility and restraint. I'm more than certain that someone somewhere will be able to dig up some dirt from either side badmouthing the other side, but the fact remains: sometimes jokes can go too far and feelings get hurt, whether that was the intention or not, and in the end, I really do think it's best if we forget about what has happened and focus on what is happening. And what is happening is we have a fun, fresh, and funny new face on the site that is going to bring us hours of love and laughter. So again I say: Welcome Irving! The other day Jerrid called Brad high schoolish and immature. Ok sure. What a delightfully meta way of addressing the new cast of this show. The M*A*S*H reference was a particularly nice touch.
Also, I agree with Brad (at least the Brad character) re: Nick at Nite and TV Land playing stuff that's too recent. Alas, I don't control fifty Nielsen boxes, so no channel cares what I think.

Took me a minute to get the joke, well struck sir.

Clever way to address things, but that ending was dark.

Am I to believe then that Jerrid's character was *killed off*? Jeez. Too bad Brad didn't do a bit recycling/re-editing old Jerrid footage into a dramatic death scene like 'South Park' did with Chef. :/

Really enjoyed the end bit, great stuff keep them coming

Ouch. Good episode though. Nick at Nite won't even play Cheers anymore and that's the 80s. These "classic channels" are really not what they used to be.

I'm glad they went for the obscure references and not the most obvious one: Ashton Kutcher on "Two and a Half Men." I hate that damn show.

I have it on pretty good authority that Brad Jones would eat a Big Box version of Night of Horror before referencing Two and a Half Men. OwO

Yeah, but Two and a Half Men sucked before the change, too.

He made a Spin City - Charlie Sheen reference. Back in the days when you could use Charlie to replace OTHER people.... (OK, he more or less ran the show into the ground, but still...)

Irving seems like a more confident actor than Jerrid anyway. Having seen them both in "Paranoia," Irving was a lot more solid!

Why are so many channels moving away from their purpose? Cartoon Network shows live action shows, MTV has pretty much no music videos The History Channel shows fiction, Nick At Nite shows "Friends" , and Disney Channel well I don't know what the hell they're giving but it hardly reminds me of Disney.
Great vid, kinda bummed out about Jerrid though, it's too bad what happened but oh well thats life, I'm just glad the show goes on, I'm ready for the post Jerrid episodes.

...BBC America thinks it can get away with showing something as long as someone in the cast is British... Oh and there's the mess that spawned when G4 and TechTV collided; How the hell do you get "Cheaters" and "Cops" from that equation?
Reply to this
I understand why it happens, but it's aggravating that every new station comes with a specific guideline to fill some niche (cartoons, vintage tv, gardening) and inevitably becomes exactly like every other channel on TV within a decade.
Reply to this
Actually, I think I can justify their showing of "Friends," and it kinda makes sense if you think about it. Or am I just sorta wrong? lol
Reply to this
Well you are right, but rather than make the modern day point (which we all should know about if we've seen Nick at Nite) I decided to make a joke about it cause I don't know I honestly was just bored enough to make a jab at Friends (hate the show so much really) and I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one, still a lot of the classic shows I miss from the line up are not there which made them lose the viewer in me... of course that means shit in retrospect oh well.

It's easy, have a network that shows 50s 60s and 70s television, and another network for the 80s through the 90s. Don't just get rid of everything from past to make room for the recent.

MTV has been always les about music since the early 90s. This is the same exc that thouht making Downtown Juile Brown, Pauly Shore, Carrot Top, Kennedy, Tom Green fameaus and that Real World and that damn Jearsy shore were good ideas

I agree with you Brad I use to love Nick-At-Night and TVLand until they started showing reruns of shows that were showing when I was a live. IO didn't mind when rerunning Married... with Children because that show actually started before I was born and ran for a good long while, but once they started showing That 70s Show, The Nanny, and George Lopez I bailed for the most part!
I hate reality shows too... I watch TV to escape reality when will people learn this!?
I say if you want a new roommate for these bits I'd pick Jake! No offence to Irving!

Thats an interesting thought. Most of his friends 'seem' to be morally all over the place (or Chaotic Neutral in D&D terms), but Jerrid was definitely not the one with the best moral compass. If you heard what he had to say about a couple of subjects you would see/remember that he has an incredibly rude and insensitive side.
But then again I don't know these people personally so for all we know they could be volunteering at the homeless shelters on Sundays and giving 50% of their paycheck to the National U.S. Debt.

Jerrid's been saying some stupid shit for a while , which would be fine only the fallout from it always ends up here, Brad just got tired of covering for Jerrid for the 20th or 30th time.

I didn't know about Jerrid making cancer jokes or something. Though I like people saying they shouldn't talk about it. Not that Jerrid is now dead or something, but messing around with someone who is no longer able to defend themselves isn't very fair.
Reply to this
Well if you have been following comments (Radiodrome Geek Juice episode, etc, and announcements)he was talking a lot of shit to different fans who have come forward and posted on some of his actions and what he has said to. (Also said a lot of dumb statements on Dromes in the past.) I doubt the people he was bad-mouthing and saying really wrong horrible shit about behind their backs had a chance to defend themselves at that time. "Isn't Very Fair" to be saying horrible things and "jokes" about your friends, coworkers behind their backs to people you don't even know. Ya reap what you sow man.
Reply to this
I'd love to see him try to defend himself, just for comedy sake. When he started making really stupid jokes right after Whitney Houston's death, a fan asked him to tone it down a little because he had just lost a relative that day. Jerrid's response was something like "well, uh, look, a few people are finding it funny, so whatever." He actually linked the fan to a post of someone saying how funny Jerrid's death jokes were, as if the fan (who, again, just lost a relative) was supposed to now find it funny. Fucking asshole.
I also want to see him try to say "come on, cancer jokes about jillian is funny, two people told me so." I'm sorry if I seem upset.

I find it interesting that a majority of the posts here are not welcoming Irving to the site, but "JERRID SUCKED AND I'M GLAD HE'S GONE BECAUSE HE SUCKED!!!!..oh, Hai, Irving." For the most part, Jerrid has been very mature about his disaffiliation with the site, refusing to bad mouth Brad or his site and even wishing him luck in his future endeavors. You're a damn funny guy, and here's to a long, prosperous run here at thecinemasnob.com!

Thats the internet for you, hate hate hate hate, but yeah it would be nice to get less comments bad mouthing Jerrid (not saying what he said was right before anyone fires back) when that should come second to the video (at least the way I see it) I said this before and I'll say it again I'm ready for the Post Jerrid episodes, now to add to that it's great to see more from Irving he seems to be the perfect person to act opposite of Brad on this show. Finally as for Jerrid, I'll miss him for the great bits he provided and will still be saddened by how much he blew it by being way too out of hand. But once more I say congrats Irving for getting to be the one to carry the torch of this show, you've already proven that the replacement will be fun to watch

The thing with Jerrid is that he did way more than just the cancer shit. The cancer joke was like the last drop on a lot of nonsense that had been filling for a good while. Both parties had dealt with the ordeal well tho.

You're over-exaggerating, there's plenty of comments on here about the episode and Irving, and not every comment on here mentioning Jerrid is bashing him. Even if they are, they have a right to, and Jerrid kinda had it coming.
Reply to this
It's just that Jerrid doesn't even visit the site anymore, so bashing on him seems pretty counter-productive to me, no matter how justified one's hatred is. I really hate harping on this, but Jerrid is the past, and Irving is the future, and dwelling on the past doesn't do anybody any good, least of all Brad and Irving.
Reply to this
I don't think anyone on here is talking directly to Jerrid, they're just putting down their thoughts on the situation (which is a big one). Some people say they'll miss Jerrid, some say they won't, and it appears that everyone can agree that this episode was very good. It's impossible to comment on a change like this without commenting on the situation. By the time the next Jerrid-less episode comes around, I'm sure there will be very little Jerrid talk, but for now it's good for people to air their thoughts and opinions. That's what the comments section is for.

Poor Irving. Every group has to have a George Costanza. I figured it'd fall to Brian but... There is another.

I liked Jerrid. He wasn't as bad of an actor as a lot of people here seem to think now. He was great in that Human Centipede 2 parody trailer and his detective character in that Cannibal Holocaust review was also really good. So I wish him well with his business of shooting weddings or whatever he was supposed to do... even if after all I've heard about him I'm just imagining him in a suit and a shirt that's not buttoned all the way up, so you can see his hairy chest, trying to hit on the bridesmades with awful jokes ("have you ladies heard the one about the bride that got breast cancer at her batchelor party?"), followed by that goofy laugh he did... Yeah, I miss him already. And if anyone tries to argue that the site will not be missing anything after he's gone, just go back and watch the video where he learns that Jules Verne was not two people or that whole ass-burgers thing.
And as for Irwing, he's also fun... even if he oddly reminds me of a slightly fatter and shorter version of like a white Laurence Fishburne. He has the same smile, kinda. But he's fun and he has an adorable laugh on the midnight screening videos. But good luck, you're gonna need it. Ooooh! No no no, what I mean is *awkward laugh* good luck as in, um, you know how women SUPPOSEDLY have this thing called breast cancer? Well, good luck, 'cos you have man boobs. Times ticking, Irving! But in all seriousness it's good dudes can't get real cancer in like their man parts... Oh they have what now?

Yes. A thousand times yes! I don't have a television anymore much less cable for the exact reason you mentioned in this episode. I loved the old Nick at Nite reruns. Joe Friday taught me what a pyramid scheme was. Dick Van Dyke introduced me to the concepts of wholesale and bahmitzva. As a child, I watched more reruns than I did shows that were actually on at the time and it was glorious. TV Land was suppose to be the answer to our classic tv needs. Instead its the home of Danny Bonaducci reality shows. A&E used to be the classy channel. Now its all tattoos and pawn shops. Bravo was classy channel number two and now its the gay reality show network. I saw a commerical for History channel and they have some show with Larry the Cable Guy hunting ghosts and some hillbilly getting bit by a snake. I'm shocked ESPN still shows sports, its the only channel thats stuck to it's original purpose.
I understand to stay relevant in cable you have to evolve but is it so much to ask that with 3000 channels at least a couple of them could cater to people who want classic tv shows, music videos, legitimate history docs, older cartoons, and something high brow/classy? Apparently so. Oh yeah, and bring back Tech TV.

No Jerrid means this show shouldn't be continuing. I know everyone heres hopping on the good riddance Jerrid bandwagon but not me. Pretty lame Brad, pretty lame.
Reply to this
I don't really see the show as "continuing". It's not like they kept the original title and Irving shaved his head to assume the role of "Jerrid". It's just...Brad and Irving.
Brad has a good enough reason to do this series with the other members of this site. It's not like these skits have any sort of ongoing narrative. Even though they had a good repartee together, I don't see why it had to be exclusive to Brad and Jerrid, and not alternating between Brad and Brian/Jake/Sarah/etc., and I felt that way when Jerrid was still here. Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno.
Reply to this
Exactly what Skibz said. I love doing these little sketches, and I see no reason to stop. If Irving were to drop out for some reason in the future, I would continue then as well; so it's not really a slam against Jerrid, it's just continuing on with a show in a different direction. Just like all the shows I mentioned in the episode didn't stop when someone left.

I can't think of the title of this cheesy horror film and this seemed like the forum to find it. I saw it like fifteen years ago on USA Up All Night. JAKE: Of course he fucking did. Who from this world would of fucking enjoyed Bridemaids or Mr. Poppler's god damn penguins.
BRIAN: Didn't he hate the later?
JAKE: Pfft, that was just a bad act. Besides now that he's gone we can say all sorts of bad shit behind his back.
BRAD: Uh yeah we're not doing that.
JAKE: Well I am.
BRAD: Yeah but that's only because you're a self admitted grade a-asshole.
JAKE: Well at least I'm not the self admitted grade a-asshole who made someone watch the Smurfs!
BRAD: Point.
But yeah good transition video all the same. Sucks about what happened but I guess that's just what you get sometimes with certain people and I won't say anything else since I really don't know any of the details of the situation besides what's been said by you guys.

The cutaway shots are too similar to the master. It makes the edits awkward. Move the camera a bit further to the left or right to give a greater difference in viewing angle, and it'll look better.

The other day Jerrid called Brad high schoolish and immature. Ok sure. Brad put out a nice statement about the issue, which even complimented Jerrid; hasn't said any personal or bad things about him, and even made light of the situation in this video. Jerrid meanwhile has been name calling, gloating about his friend list on facebook, and, oh yeah, said a cancer joke about Jillian!!

Well, now he's on a "Brad Tries". So all this crap is being resolved like adults. Just hope it doesn't happen again. And funny it's shot OUTSIDE. Wonder if he's not allowed inside.
