So awesome that you loved this! Because unlike what you said I was waiting for the day the trailer for this was released and when i saw it on Youtube all the comments under it were people trashing it and talking about the 90s movie. I've read a few of the Dredd comics mostly crossover ones and I was hoping for a movie like this to be made! I kind of hope they make helmets for this movie! I do love that in reallife they're trying to make a gun for cops that is like the Lawgivers. It fires 4 different kinds of ammo ranging from armor piercing rounds to none-lethal salt rounds. And, it's suppose to have a chip in the grip that won't allow it to fire unless you're wearing a ring that has another chip in it that unlock the safety. So the possible subtitle for the movie could've been "In dah FACE!"?
I do hop if there are sequels they do branch out and bring in some of Dredd's more notorious villains like bring back Mean Machine(the big cyborg redneck from the 1st movie) and Judge Death!

I understand your hatred of things like you know the lack of any good R-rated action and horror movies. But there are also movies that deserve that PG-13 done and done, and no matter how bad Transformers is or another example Battleship. This was a great movie, I hope it does well so they can make another. I really hope they put Judge Death in a sequel. If anyone can make something as ludicrous as Judge Death work in a movie it's these guys.
For those who don't know Judge Dredd has a lot of supernatural elements in the comic book series. The main villain throughout the series [His "Joker" more or less.] is an alternate universe of Judge Dredd where all life is deemed illegal so Mega-City One is a huge undead Necroplis and Judge Death is an intelligent zombie version of Dredd. He's part of the Dark Judges who're basically the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse. Judge Death, Judge Fire, Judge Fear and Judge Mortis. It gets really crazy from there.
I would love to see Judge Death on the big screen, especially if Karl Urban were to play both roles. Reply to this

In August 2012, he also mentioned that a Judge Dredd television series would be a positive future step for the series. In September 2012, Garland further expanded his sequel concepts. He said that he would explore the "Origins" and "Democracy" storylines and introduce the villains Judge Cal and Chopper. He also said that he would pursue the concept that Judge Dredd is a fascist. After watching both this and Matthew Buck’s review for this movie I’ve got to say I’m about 99.9% certain that I’m going to love this thing. I’ve had a good feeling about this ever since I first got a rough idea of how straight forward and relatively understated the plot was going to be. It looks to be an almost Verhoeven-esque sci-fi violence-fest aimed squarely at an adult audience, which is something unfortunately rare in this day and age. The fact that it wasn’t a product of Hollywood’s neutered committee thinking is probably something to do with that I guess.
I do have one question that wasn’t addressed in the video though. Was there a lot of CGI in the movie (particularly in the gory/violent scenes) or did they use practical effects or a combination of the two? It’s not a big deal since it sounds as though whatever they did worked really well but I’m just curious. Reply to this

Why the fuck do studios still think it's a good idea, in this day and age, to not release movies on the same day worldwide? Now I want to see Dredd 3D but there isn't a release date yet for here, meaning it will probably be during the beginning of 2013. This happens very often. It also goes both ways: some movies come out way earlier in Europe. For example, all the movies that premiered at Cannes were in theaters the Wednesday after the festival. Don't these retards realize they are encouraging piracy by doing this? The only way I can see this movie is illegally. By the way, in my opinion the main reason people pirate stuff is not because of the money but rather because it is the only fucking way they can see this movie. Other point relating to this: DVD region codes (possibly the single most cited reason I hear for pirating instead of buying DVD's). Those dumbasses still haven't realized that there is such a thing as the internet that has turned the world into a village, thus making these kind of tactics to get a few more buck with staggered releases and region coding not only obsolete (they were probably viable before the 90's) but also easily circumventable by providing convenient ways to pirate stuff. If those assholes just come to the 21st century a lot of piracy won't happen anymore. Reply to this

NAH, I'm trolling. I saw this movie earlier today (and holy shit, did it get so few showings. 6 showings, 3 for 3D, 3 for 2D, at two different AMC theaters I checked) and I saw it in 2D, and geez was it fantastic.

I thought this flick looked like a direct ripoff of "The Raid: Redemption" judging from the previews...

Actually, "Dredd" was filmed first.

Honestly I liked Dredd a heck of a lot more than Raid Redemption, personally.

For a second, because of the camera positioning, I thought Brian was rubbing Brad's leg in the video. Besides that, sweet, sooooooo looking forward to this movie!

You reading off bd reviews of this made me wonder if our old friend Rex Reed's thoughts on this!?
Reply to this
The guys said when promoting the film that they'll make sequels if the film makes more then 50 million.
They want to make a Trilogy, and have ideas of what to do. And a TV show.
Really, I hope it does well, I'd love to see a Dredd trilogy if they're all like this one.

This flick was awesome being in the UK got to see it a few weeks back and I was just sitting there going nuts! It has been too long since there have been films like this - an 18 or R for you guys that is actually good. Well in this case awesome. This took me back to when action films were the cream of the crop. I thought the first expendables was gonna be that film but I found that a bit dull. This film just killed it. Urbun is just becoming a must have actor to have in your films no matter the movie type. Just buzzing and yes I agree this film has to do well so the film companies make more of this stuff and stop all this twilight and transformers shit. For the sake of cinema see this film!

I'm happy brad that you are not liking PG-13-ized action and Horror movies. Believe me, I hate that too. But there's some PG-13 action movies that worked. The Fugitive worked, biggest example. And honestly, I don't think Transformers sets any precedent in PG-13 action movies. It's just an adaptation of a kind of silly cartoon from the 80s. Did you expect that to get an R-rating? I understand your hatred of things like you know the lack of any good R-rated action and horror movies. But there are also movies that deserve that PG-13 done and done, and no matter how bad Transformers is or another example Battleship.
I don't think they should be emphasized in, because they can't be made R-rated, only fools would make it R-rated.
But honestly, like your cinema snob show. But hitting on the people that don't like it is kind of low. Even if they say such hilarious or stupid things.

Reply to this
Yes,the Dark Judges on the big screen would be awesome. There would have to be a bit of CGI but hopefully they can pull it off.

It makes me wonder if Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit was originally named Judge Death until they discovered it's from a Judge Dredd comic so they changed it to avoid lawsuits. Damn, that's a lot of Judge D's!

From wiki: At the London Film and Comic Con in July 2012, Garland said that a North American gross in excess of $50 million for Dredd would potentially allow for sequels. Garland said that he had plans for a trilogy of films with a second film focusing on the origins of Dredd and his city, and a third introducing Dredd's nemesis, the undead Judge Death and his Dark Judges. Also in September, Macdonald said that further films would be made in partnership with IM Global and would likely be again shot in South Africa.

Funny thing is there has been a moment where Dredd removed his helmet and they put like a censor bar across it that the perps he was fighting with were so repulsed by his face that they were saying things like "He's so ugly he doesn't deserve to live!"... Which makes me smile when I watch the Stallone version

This ticks me off even more, because I really wanted to see Dredd and now I have to see it. I thought I'd go today but no the theater where I'm at has only one movie that opened this weekend and the rest opened from a week or two ago to the beginning of August.

Its karl urban he is awesome im glad that star trek made him into a household name i loved him since hercules and wanted to see him in more movies.
I don't know why people whine about brad's arguement about R movies cut down to pg-13 movies he has a valid point it is a rip off and there is no way in hell i am wasting money on what basically is a Tv edit to a Theater release. Geez if you feel insulted by his comments.....then you need to search yourself more.
I don't get why people have a problem with bale's voice XD -not bitching about you brad- just never saw the problem sure i make fun of it but i quote and make fun of all the movies i like.
This movies looks fun it feels like an 80's action flick and i hope to god it is cause thats what i thought taken was but was soooo disappointed when it wasn't
I will see it in 2d cause i can't stand paying more for something i hate even tho it sounds like fun its the
principle of the thing XD
Oh god poor Jake XD he will kill you
Are you going to do the read outs from reviews more? cause i approve!
Reply to this
I really like the movie. Everything you said is right; also really like how subtle certain things were like when Dredd said "Stun" the kids even though they were pointing a gun at a judge and about to kill him and foreshadowing the ending. I really hope for a sequel.
To add on the comment about thinking making Horror or action film PG-13 that should have not be PG-13 argument. I saw an 8 or 9 year old kid with his mom watching this movie in my theater. I was really surprise and think should add to the example that rating should not be the main focus of getting audience attention.

Actually Roger Moore gave a mixed review to HATES (2.5 stars is nothing special).
Besides Dredd's getting good reviews but it's not getting excellent reviews (a lot of more American critics didn't like it).
It's a really shame it's going to tank masively at the box office and won't be getting a sequel (sad).

I guess it's good to be a action/nerdy fan this year. Avengers, Expendables 2 and this. Okay Avengers is tame compared to the other two but hopefully that made sense.
Only downside is I can pretty much tell I'm going to be the only chick in the theater seeing Dredd soon. Just feels awkward sometimes. I don't even like 3D but this looks like the fun 3D. Sorry Brad I'm getting ready to go sleep so I'm doing a comment before I watch the video thing. Least I'll have something to watch tomorrow.

A little rant:

This movie only had two to three 3D showings at my local theaters. My friend and I were gonna go to a 2D showing yesterday cause she had plans around the time of the 3D showing, but we held off until today to see a 3D showing. So glad, it was totally fucking worth it. I haven't seen a lot of 3D movies, but this was hands down the best 3D I've ever seen. It would have been an awesome movie either way, but the 3D was definitely fucking phenominal.

Brad, if you have not seen Killer Joe, do so immediately when it hits DVD. Based on your love of ultra-violence (Clockwerk Orange reference intended) you would love that movie as much as I did, and maybe the things McConaughey will do with a chicken wing Magic Mike wouldn't dare have him do.
I for one am kind of pissed my friend who thought of KJ what Roger Moore thought of Dredd talked up The Master, which the girlfriend and I saw instead of Dredd at a Studio Movie Grill. I felt about how you did about Tree of Life, except for the fact Master had a plot... and really good acting, including Amy Adams being terrifying... and top-notch cinematography, so I guess not at all how you felt about ToF minus that last thing, but my point is Killer Joe is the Dredd of current ltd. release movies, Master is the ToF of them. I think the most entertainment I got out of it was my delicious Movie Grill burger, with no pickles, cause I'm on your side there too.
Now, to see Dredd at my local theater, which even after 7 is only 7.25$ for 3d adult ticket. Be jealous

You do realize that End of Watch was number 1 at the box office this week. A R-rated cop drama/action flick was number one, it may have not been Dredd 3D but it doesn't completely write off R-rated movies in cinema. And unfortunately the runner up is HATES.

Haven't been to see too many flicks lately, but this review had me intrigued, seeing how much I liked Stallone's, albeit campy, depiction of Dredd. And sweet heseuss on a ritz, you guys did not lead me astray. This movie kicked some major ass, especially in the 3D department. The few nitpicks I'd point out are 1)Those helmets. How tf did Urban see around that nose bridge piece the entire time? 2)Slo-Mo is all great(even if it makes my asthma inhaler seem seedy at the moment), but did they have to spend 5 minutes dazzling us with a water spray display? 3)Of what use, really, was there in taking out their IT guy's eyes beyond it being a gimmick for sympathy from Anderson? Those kind of got in my craw a bit, but overall, damnably entertaining, and worth every cent.

i've never understood people's problem with the Batvoice. i never had any problem understanding him, or Bane for that matter, yet it seems like every other person hates them and couldn't understand them or thought they sounded like a half-assed post-job, or whatever they have to say about it. if you guys aren't being serious then fine, my bad, but it seems like it's actually ruining the films for some people.

After seeing Brad's review I was hyped for this movie and I dragged my friends to the cinema. This movie is...just boring. After seeing all the positive reviews i'm just confused did we see the same movie? What I saw was 2 people shooting incompetent meatbags and slow-mo that lasts 3 light years. Raid Redemption is so much better than this. I don't know if they cut anything in my country but there was nothing in this movie. It slowly(SLOWLY) builds up and that's it really I didn't see any action other than couple of useless people getting shot.
Yes movie looks beautiful, yes dredd and ma-ma are fucking awesome BUT I still fall asleep in this movie. Maybe I expected something like Shoot'em All or Raid Redemption dunno. Dredd3D is still much better than stallone movie though.

way better than the raid. the raid just gets really repetitive, especially once they ax the guns and it's mostly just them using their fists and feet. here it's all action all great every second. i think that one guy was watching the wrong film. anyway, i also liked how Dredd even though they are pretty much fucked, he continues to test and train the rookie. which kind of makes you think that this situation isn't that big of a deal for him. like this is just another day of being a judge. if you think about it, is scary as hell. mega city has got to suck to live in.
