I just saw Argo tonight, and Brad, I think you'll love it. It's a very late-70s and early-80s feel to it. Plus, it's a little affectionate toward the Star Wars rip-offs of the era. Plus, it's part spy-drama and part Hollywood-comedy.
I can't wait to see Skyfall next week. Judging by all the good reviews it's been getting plus its box office success in the UK, it might be Daniel Craig's best Bond film since Casino Royale. Thought I might ask you this Brad so I don't forget. Have you heard Adele's title song yet and what do you think of it? How is that Malick? This is a very real thing. It's known as the Intentional Fallacy. The author's intent does not hold the actual meaning of a work: the work itself holds the meaning. And the director can think his film means one thing when it actually means something totally different. With /Black Swan/, for instance, Aronofsky was trying to make his own version of a film called /Perfect Blue/. He had the pieces available, but he wasn't really sure what they meant or how they were supposed to fit together, so a lot of the plot elements carry a subtext that the director does not comprehend and ends up abandoning by the end of the film, various plot threads get dropped, and it's a mess. I liked this movie and that's what matters. SS did not ruin it for me, either, but she is normally arrogant and obnoxious and usually goes out of her way to be offensive. And that sucks. She is overrated, one-track-minded, and has completely sold out. And that also really sucks!

So thus far, most comments I've seen hold my opinion and have basically just respectfully disagreed, as I did, with how annoyed you were with Silverman's character, but more or less seen where you were coming from.
No mentions of TDKR or Tree of Life yet. Brad, I think your commentors so far have received at least GEDs or higher. ... and because of that, I'm a bit bored with these comments. I hate to say it but I hope Josh covers this in the next Radiorome so I can laugh at troll comments again, or see you guys make another nerd rage video.

Sarah Silverman wasn't nearly so annoying in this as she might have been.

Suddenly, I want a AMC theater in my town!
I don't listen to her music a lot even though my Dad enjoys listening to her music, but I thought the song was damn good and it harkens back to the early Bond music of the 60s and 70s.

I really enjoyed this film; Silverman wasn't as annoying as I figured she was going to be. It played to her character, and I foudn the whole movie to be plenty enjoyable.
(Though when Turbo shows up fused with the bug, I kept expecting him to brag about creating a master race of spiiiiderrrrs...)

Haven't seen the flick. Have no idea what you're talking about, but perhaps when we aren't completely broke we might get to see it. I have kids; my life at the movies has mostly ended, at least for a while. They've gotta hit Netflix before I see them. And if I didn't just look up the movie and see its PG-rated, I couldn't tell if anything here is kid friendly or not, knowing your previous track record.
Just thought I'd investigate what you were up to, Brad. Now I know. I think I may check in from time to time. Hope you're doing well. Never met you, Jake. Best wishes.

Skyfall is showing a midnight around the country on Wednesday night in IMAX. Not sure if it's also doing theatre midnights.

I'm glad to see yall have pretty much the same out look as I do on Sarah Silverman! I'm sure she'd be the only thing that's make this movie annoying for me as the trailers look awesome but the one released scene that has her introduction gave me a headache!
I can't wait for you 2's review of the Crudes! Nic Cage in a CGI animated movie! This will be legendary!
I've Seen Despicable me and yeah the little yellow minions are the funniest characters next to the main character's assistant the old Cockney mad scientist! The main guy is like a really subtle Dr. Evil so out side showing him being annoyed by some one there isn't much they could show of him with out just showing clips from the movie which would give away plot points and they seem to still be in the teaser phase!

Hey Jake, actually, the movie is called 'Sugar Rush' is japan and is marketed more with the Silverman character as the focus. I'm not sure if that makes Japan more honest or more perverted though...

Capcom actually made them take Dr. Wily out of the self help scene. I don't know why but there's pictures from the original version.
Reply to this
However, they did have Dr. Robotnik in the self-help scene. Since Wily is kind of similar to King Candy, both being old bald guys with crazy hair, maybe the film-makers were worried about the younger audience members getting confused between the two?

And count me in as another who cannot stand Sarah Silverman. Knowing that she's much more prominently featured makes me far less interested in this film than I had been.

Reminds me of the Jackie Chan cartoon in which he was the hero of the show in the beginning had fun action scenes but it later became a show about Jade the little girl that never listened to him in latter season it was her and Uncle that kept beating all the demons while Jackie fought off the 3/4 same mooks.

This movie wasn't bad. It was a wasted potential. Here, a full description on one sentence. Wasted potential.

I thought the movie was fine. The Sarah Silverman character wasn't as annoying as I thought she would be, in fact the character gets reigned in a lot before she goes overboard. It's a matter of preference. I thought the character was harmless. Overall, I thought the movie was a great love letter to gamer culture and I want this movie to succeed so they make a sequel. If the movie does well maybe the real video game companies will license more content from their franchises and we'll see more in-depth interactions with established game characters. Definitely recommended. 3D was good as well.
Also, the short film 'Paperman' at the beginning was really good and beautiful to look at.

I can't stand Sarah Silverman either. I have no idea how she was picked for this role. On a list of actresses to play a little girl in a Disney movie, Silverman should not even be in the top five thousand. That said, I tolerated her in the movie better than they did, though I do understand their views about the second half of the film. I do recommend it. All the bits and cameos from classic arcade games were fantastic.

The Tim and Eric movie wasn't any good, but I really like the show. I don't think it's something you can "not get" though. I like Tim and Eric stuff in the same way that I Youtube Poops. They're stupid as hell on purpose, and I'm ok with that.

to me that Heros quest game seams more like a stab at Starcraft, how is it more like gears? because the girl looks like the one from gears?

I thought the movie was enjoyable. If nothing else my inner fanboy is happy with the Metal Gear Solid reference they threw in.

Agreed, I really wish that the whole movie didnt take place in one machine. I was hoping for more of a movie with Ralph jumping through all of the machines. Japan really do the right thing by calling this "Sugar Rush"

If the director tells you what the movie means, the discussion is not necessarily over, because the thing about art is it can get away from you and mean things you never intended for it to mean. Sometimes as an artist, you're telling a story that you don't fully comprehend — maybe because you're adapting someone else's work, maybe because you don't fully understand yourself (or in dire circumstances, you're just a shitty communicator who doesn't understand the language of film) — and it isn't until later that you discover what you were instinctively trying to communicate the whole time; your movie means something different than you thought it did. And sometimes the movie successfully conveys the message, even though you didn't realize what that message was when you were making it; your instincts carried you through.
Oh, shoot! I forgot this review was for Wreck-It Ralph!
Dino-tastic. That's not even a pun. It's just an uninspired portmanteau.
Really, is Monsters, Inc. a 3-D conversion? I wouldn't think they'd do a conversion. I'd think they'd just go back to the original 3-D project files and render an authentic 3-D version.

You really don't get it though, you think it's just "anti humor" nonsense but tim and eric are consistent in their absurdity and parody every form of media, maybe you should read the following for a better understanding:

It's not that they don't get it. It's that the humor isn't funny. At all. Ironically or actually. If you like it, fine. But saying "You don't get it" because another doesn't find it funny is inaccurate. They get the joke. The joke isn't funny.

Eh, I didn't mind the Silverman character. They were going for the annoying-but-sympathetic approach, which did fine for me but not for you or Jake. From the trailer, I actually got the impression from the trailer that Ralph would spend most of the movie in "Hero's Duty" where he learned to fight and adjust to "modern" gaming. But a sequel where he explored more arcade machines would be awesome.
I liked "Paperman" and its unique animation style, but I wouldn't call it better than the film. I'd place it more than "mild recommendation."
No mention of the scene with the Laffy Taffy? Take the dialogue out of context and... dang.

To be honest, I didn't find Sarah Silverman's character to be annoying in the least. This tiny annoying little kid felt like a good foil for Ralph, and it was the source of a lot of heart in the movie. Additionally, her problems in her own game served as a good contrast to Ralph's stuff and showed that he doesn't have it so bad.

Like many of the others here, I actually thought the film was pretty good. I have no background regarding Sarah Silverman so I just followed along with what the film was conveying to me was her character.
What truly makes this unfortunate is there will be people like you who hate Sarah Silverman so much that no matter what she's in or how good it actually could be, you can't enjoy it. You just can't get her real persona out of your mind.
And because of that we don't get real opinions on the heartfelt moments or the 'twist' at the end of the film from you guys. Oh well.
Looking forward to more of your theatrical film reviews!

Um, no, I liked "School of Rock," I liked her on "The Larry Sanders Show," her show made me laugh a couple times. I never said I hated her. I said she's hit or miss for me. That's hardly saying that I hate everything she has to do with.

Wow.... I'm amazed at how shallow so many people are that they think "This person is voicing a character? Well this movie just became lame."
People going in with expectations seems to be one of the biggest killers of a good time.
Seeing a movie like this that is an actual movie for gamers that has references and terms that a gamer knows about, and with a plot that actually has a heart to it, and seeing it get called things like "wasted potential", is heartbreaking for me. And not heartbreaking because I love this movie, but heartbreaking because people really are that jaded and hard to satisfy.

Hey dude. I've liked plenty of movies Sarah Silverman was in, and I even laughed a time or two at her show. I found her character in this movie annoying, and I would have found the character annoying regardless of who was playing her. Not once in this review did I ever say "this movie sucks just because Sarah Silverman is in it." In fact, I still recommended the movie, despite that character.

It's amazing what some people chose to hear. Somehow "this character was annoying, but I still recommend the movie" turned into "I dislike this movie just because Sarah Silverman is in it."

I found it kinda weird that a movie with obscure references to Tapper and Metal gear solid had groan inducing jokes like Silvermans character making fun of the name "Hero's Duty" (duty, doody, get it?

I personally loved Wreck-It Ralph. I like all the characters. Even Gene though he's a dick. I thought the movie was great. Silverman's character didn't bother me because she was supposed to be a childish and juvenile character. It worked in the context of her game and in her character and Silverman does pull off the childish juvenile humor. I would have liked more exploration of the other games as well but I don't think the Sugar Rush aspect ruins it. I also don't think it becomes focused on Vanelope either. The story follows Ralph's journey and I would have prefered a longer journey but I loved what I got. Could it have been better? Yeah. Was I disappointed? No. I thought it was great.

I never listen to what the director says because they could be lying.
Also, the badguys actually being nice is art imitating life, people who play villains are on average way nicer, which makes sense if you think about it, you have to be a good sport to accept the scumbag role.

You obviously haven't been to many theaters. I went to one in Humboldt county. The exit, right under the fucking screen. you had to walk down a ramp to get to it. lol

Had the movie gone the jumping through games route, it would have been extremely boring in a hurry. It probably needed more of that, but too much would have annoyed me to no end.
Honestly, Sarah Silverman did not sink the movie for me the way it did for you. Her character provided a enough complexity to an otherwise dull movie.
I think Vanellope is my favorite character in the movie. She showed more growth and complexity than Jane Lynch's character ever did.

On Tim and Eric, I won't sit here and say you "didn't get it" because it's not for you to get. It's not for anyone to "get." You watch Tim and Eric the same way you would watch a YoutubePoop. Of course it's stupid and pointless, because it's "absurdist" humor which has been since the early days of theater. It's just not your taste, fine. Doesn't mean us fans can't laugh at a bunch of dudes making assholes of themselves

THANK YOU! Someone understands that Tim and Eric are a fucking abortion to comedy! Those two fuckbags dont belong in front of a camera or even in contact with people! That "anti-comedy" bullshit isnt funny at all!
I wanna see Wreck it Ralph, and Despicable Me, so the review gives me confirmation. Still good to see some sense in the world!
I encourage you guys to insult those walking abortions tim and Eric constantly! Please do a video where you just slam Tim and Eric as the walking abortions they are! The more those two fucking morons get insulted the better!
Great review guys! I liked it!
